All it would take is for my elementary teacher to say, "I'm going to be passing out BOOK ORDERS later. . ." and I'd spring into MODEL STUDENT MODE. For those that might not know, book orders were sheets of microthin tissue paper (or so it seemed) covered with write-ups on kids books that you could order to be delivered right to school. There was always a 3X10 inch (vertical) order blank that you had to cut off and fill out.

Some of the greatest days of my elementary "career" were on BOOK ORDER days. . . . and the day when the books actually arrived. . . . damn. That was like Christmas, at school, with no tree, and no HardRock, Coco, or Joe.

***Bonus points are in order to anyone who gets that last reference!

Yeah, I think I was the only person in my class who gave a damn about book orders. We also had a thing at our school(not sure if anyone else had this) called Book Fair. It was basically where our entire library turned into a bookstore. It was great.

"That was like Christmas, at school, with no tree, and no HardRock, Coco, or Joe."

That's from the Three Little Dwarfs thing, right?

Wow! Book orders. I'd forgotten about those until you brought up this thread. Yea, they were like Christmas in school. I always looked for books with dinosaurs in them. Bringing back memories I'd forgotten about.:D That's what this forum is about.

          Fart yeah!

I remember the book catalogues and the book fair also. The book fair was a little more rare than the little catalogues, but they were both awesome. I remember getting a book called Bunnicula, some GI Joe/He-man/Batman books, and a poster book about Debbie Gibson(cause she was badd to tha bone).

I used to love Book Order day. Though one time I ordered a Gremlins book and I never got it.
We also used to have Book fairs, where they'd have a bunch of books set up in the library you could buy. I remember getting Garfield and My Pet Monster books there.

Also, I got the Hardrock, Cocoa and Joe thing. I remember them fondly. They used to air it on The Bozo Show

Does anyone remember the Ed Emberly Drawing Books? . . . They were really fun. . . .starting with a simple shape like a square or a circle. . .then step by step how to make them into pictures. . . . . like animals, machines, or cities.

My favorite was the animals book. . .I seem to remember the DRAGON at the end. . . .anyone else? I only bring this up because I would ALWAYS order the new Ed Emberly book from my book orders at school.

HAHA!! they really were super flimsy!! i liked buying the non-book stuff, like stickers, new kids on the block poster, glow in the dark stars, science kits, and the 101 nintendo secrets revealed book.

i couldn't tell you how much money i wasted on those book orders and the damned Book Fair. i bought multiple copies of books that i never read. the only book i ever put to use from those order forms were Ad-Libs and this book called Bunnicula about a vampire rabbit.

I remember these, and used to participate with them. I used to always get books at hte book fair, though. I was an avid reader as a child.
