As summer approaches and I remember how much I hated summer camp, I recall how much I loved summer camp flicks . . . Just watched Wet Hot American Summer . . . great credit sequence, but falls apart after about 20 minutes. . . establishes a sweet, nostalgic tone that then goes for every lame joke possible . . . reminds me of movies my brother made in middle school . . . or the worst sketches imagined on SNL . . . in other words, don't waste your time . . . but it did make me reflect upon flicks such as POISON IVY, MEATBALLS and LITTLE DARLINGS . . . even the Friday the 13th films . . . What were your favorite camp films from the 80s . . .
When I think about summer camp, Salute Your Shorts instantly comes to mind.
I realize that it's not a movie, but it's a related subject.

Both great movies but I'm with the Salute Your Shorts dude on this
Yeahh... Heavy Weights is my favorite. Ben Stiller is hilarious in that movie as the new workout-crazed camp leader (or whatever they're called). I believe this is the last time Ben Stiller was funny, so its worth a watch.
To this day, watching that scene with him running through the woods cracks me up. There is one part that he runs across a log, stops, and yells "COME HERE YOU DEVIL LOG!!!" then proceedes to pick up the log and run with it. You really have to see it to get the joke. Anyways, I always double over in laughter at that part.

I haven't seen Heavy Weights in forever. Hopefully I will soon.
I guess I'm of a rare breed, because I really liked Wet Hot American Summer.
Then again, I've noticed that I am just extremely easily amused, so all the lame jokes could just have been far lamer than I originally thought.

Meatballs, Friaday the 13th, the Burning and Sleepaway camp.
Wet Hot American Summer is hilarious.
Sort of a parody of all the 70's -80's summer camp movies.
The last part with the jewish guy telling jokes was my favorite.
"I went to camp so long ago that #@&*ing Jesus Christ was my counselor!"

Meatballs,Little Darlings.....it was intended for girls but i had and still have a thing for Tatum O'Neal very hot!!!!

Tatum O'Neal was cool in Little Darlings, Meatballs II,Friday the 13th all those are good movies to enjoy about Camp and Summertime , I wanted to say Porky's but that 's not in the summer.
I always associate movies like the Sandlot and Big Green with the summer too
Wet hot american summer is great, and the soundtrack is the best, specaily the beginning with the kids in the morning and the can of veggies lol.
Heavyweights is good
Camp nowhere that movie was good its makes you feel just like a child again
Little Darlings really good retro camp movie
Meatballs Ive only seen a few of them and I still cant get over the pepperoni stick in the pants priceless
And even though its not a movie salute your shorts was the best show on nick, to bad its not on reruns I really would like to watch it again
