culver city the city i grew up in was known for having the original little rascals being filmed all around the city. back in the 30s i obviously dont remember seeing them filmed ( i was boring in the late 80s), but the city is known for that.

I remember the commercial that stays in my head to this day (and by the way, it still airs--the only thing they've changed is the blonde that stars in it)--the Tile Outlet commercial. I've memorized it's address--"Tile Outlet. 2434 West Fullerton in Chicago. That's 2434 West Fullerton in Chicago. Just three blocks WEST of the Kennedy Expressway!"

Jeez...that's pretty much the dryest commercial known to man, but darn it, they know how to get a message across.

Lots and lots of stuff: Cal Worington, Officer Byrd, Santa's Village, Fred Rated, Morty Mc toon, The kcal kids.

I love to go and youtube and those other sites and look for local Los Angles stuff.

Being from New Jersey, there are a few local commercials I remember such as Gary's Steakhouse, Space Farms Zoo&Museum, the Westchester County Fair, Coney Island AstroLand Park ads, Young People's Day Camp, The land of Make Believe, ABC Eyewitness News promos. If anybody from the NJ/NY has these commercials...pleas upload them to the site!!

i grew up in san francisco, so i'm not sure how widely seen the show was, but there was a show produced locally called 'buster and me' with monkey puppets.. was the show shown in other areas across the usa?

There's a lot of things I remember... Shagman (Rocky's Autos), Dealin' Doug (apparently in the public domain because two different car dealers use him as their spokesperson), the Kacey Fine Furniture lady, and Jake Jabs (who, strangely, lets wild animals roam throughout his furniture stores). All still come on TV today.

Here in Houston we have Mattress Mac of Gallery Furniture. He started his bushiness in 1982. He to this day owns the largest single furniture retail store in the world. His low budget commercials had him yelling about what sold and at the end jumping up in the air with the phrase "Gallery Furniture really will save you MONEY!" He even wrote a book about his success http://www.amazon.com/Always-Think-Big-Thomas-Duening/dp/0793153751. Anyone in the city of Houston remembers his commercials in the 80s. He funded and was even in the movie "Side Kicks" with Chuck Noris becuase he Mac is his brother inlaw. Mac also owns half of the Houston Rockets.

We also had Hilton Furniture whose commercials were mad fun of on Conan O’Brian. The reason because our local NBC station would delay his show until 1:00 in the morning. He made fun of them for it mainly because of the commercials they use to show. The main one being Hilton. His phase was "That’s a fact Jack" He had his little boy say it later on and then his daughter.

Finally we had Thunderbolt Transmission whose phase was "we put the yee'ha back in your motor and transmission." They ran the same commercial for like 20 years since the 70s. They now have a new one with a remake of the song.

This guy named AL SMITH threw a big welcome bash when he came to Waldorf. He took out ads in the paper AL SMITH IS COMING.

He set up a stamp shop.

                  He ran for elected office.

He was voted in to elected office.

You can see his American Flag truck, white cowboy hat, and alcoholic-red face from a mile away.

                  I love AL SMITH.

If you're from SW Michigan, two ads that we all know by heart:

                    S-U---double L - I, V - A - N spells Sullivan!

I still have'nt taken the time to know what the heck they sell. The ad still runs with the same music that had to have been recorded in 1968.

                    The other is: 5-8-8--2-300, Empire!

It's the jingle for a carpet company. I think they were based in Chicago.

Hmm, I used to live in Dallas and I remember this commertial for a pizza resturant or something and they had like a little character on the screen that would go "PIZZA PIZZA!!" really fast and I couldn't tell if he was saying "Piece of Pizza" or "Pizza Pizza". I still do not know to this day.

Pizza Pizza was used for Little Ceasar's pizzerias which were in NJ at one time but have gone out of business...at least in this area.

They still use that in my area! "800-588-2300, EMPIRE! Today!". That's the version they use now. Also, they have a computer generated animation. Based on what I remember from the last time I went to Michigan, they use that nationwide.

I remember going on a field trip to Organ Stop Pizza in Mesa, AZ (back when I still lived in Phoenix), which had a giant Wurlitzer organ. You could even request songs to be played! The pizza wasn't too bad, either, and they even had an ice cream bar!

I always remember as a kid Taz Records on Argyle street in Halifax. Even as a kid I collected records and I loved that place. I've never seen a used record store since with such a large and well organized 45's section.

In Peterbourough near my family's cottage they have a local channel. It's a werid hybrid between being a CBC and CBS affiliate and a community cable station. Their local news and tv ads are hillarious.

They used to have this children's show called Hatchie Malatchie. It was out of the Scranton/Wilkes Barre area. It was hosted by this lady Miss Judy and she made stuff out of pipe cleaners, had local scout troops on, showed Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons, and had this ongoing contest where if you sent her information she would call you on air and if you answered, you would win a tootsie roll bank!! Man I miss that show!!!!!

Since we had new york channels I also remember the crazy eddie commercials, astroland park at coney island (never been, I think it's closing soon anyway) space farms zoo and museum (field trip destination for most kids in NJ & Eastern PA) and the children's aid society (still got the song stuck in my head thank to another RJ thread)

But worst of all were the commercials for Mt Airy Lodge; I grew up 20 mins. from that place. They aired the same commercial for about 20 years.

Little Caesar’s!! They still have them around here after all these years. They do 'Hot & Quick' Wednesdays or something like that. It's like 5 bucks for a large pepperoni. I tried it recently and it seems like the quality went down with the prices.

I don't think the quality of Little Caesar's has gone down, it's only if you get that "Hot & Quick" that it tastes bad. Basically they really skimp on the toppings, and they are "Hot & Ready" which means they were pre-cooked instead of made fresh and been sitting under the heat lamps for 30min to an hour waiting for somebody to buy one. That's why if I order from there while that's going on, I make sure and tell them I want a large pepperoni, and not one of those "Hot & Ready" pieces of crap.

As far as local stuff I remember, I can't really remember what was local and what may have been national. I guess the things I remember most were all of the really bad commercials for lawyers and car lots.

This is kind of retro, even though it's a new commercial. But this car lot here in Dallas has Burton Gilliam from Blazing Saddles dressed up like a cowboy telling people to come on down. And on weekends he does like a 2 hour infomercial.

Here's a YouTube link to one of the commercials if you want to see it, it's pretty awful. I guess his career really went downhill.

I was raised in a small town called Morton Illinois ... its claim to fame?? It is the pumpkin capital of the world and home to the libby's (libby's libby's on the label label label) company. Google it sometime and watch the "world famous" punkin' chuckin' contests, and more at the annual pumpkin festival! *please hold your applause*
