my dad didnt let us watch wrestling because it was too violent, or Three's Company because two girls living with a guy portrayed "bad morals". yet at the same time he would come home from the video store with Pet Semetary and Child's Play

I went with my parents to see "The Shinning" when it came out,I was 8 yrs. old. They asked "Are you sure you want to go? I will be scary."It was ,but didn't bother me too much, after that nothing was really off limits.

My parents didn't let me see Raiders of the Lost Ark and Poltergeist when they came out. Same with Gremlins. I still saw Gremlins, though.... I'm kinda glad my parents didn't let me see Raiders until i was a little older. That movie would've scared a 7 year old out of his mind.

The only TV shows my parents wouldn't let me watch were All In The Family and Sanford and Son. My parents knew who Redd Foxx was. They forgot that television was also heavily censored until the mid 90's.

Quiet! You want to get sued?

(I had to do that! That's a Simpsons reference for those scratching their heads)

There were a lot of cartoons my mom wouldn't let me see or made me stop watching. Here's a short list of the ones I can think of off the top of my head:

              Scooby-Doo
The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin (I don't know WHAT she was thinking.)
              The Nightmare Before Christmas
              Anything from MTV

Whenever I tried to watch MTV, my parents hated that.
I'd be all jamming out to a white snake video, and my mom would get pissed cause there were trampy lookin chicks dancing around. So, I definitely had to sneak around to watch MTV.

The only movie I wasn't able to watch was 'A Fish called Wanda'. I don't know why but my mom wouldn't let me watch it.

My friend Jr. had an extensive video collection of movies he had recorded off of cable (remember when people use to do that!). I pretty much explored a ton of 80's movies with him. I think that's how I developed my love for cinema at an early age.

I wasn't allowed to watch The Simpsons or Beavis and Butthead because my Mom dubbed it "Too Violent" for me to watch. I understand Beavis and Butthead, but The Simpsons? Come on, it was no worse than any other sitcom/show I was allowed to watch.

Also, any movie rated R or NC-17 was off limits for obvious reasons.

My parents wouldn't let me watch South Park for the longest time, but they finally caved when they found out that I was watching it behind their backs anyway.

Probably most of the PG-13 and Rated R movies. I know I got kicked out of the room by my dad during the movie "The Piano" for some reason. My mom wouldn't let me watch Dirty Dancing or Ghost until I was a preteen, I think.

I was, oddly enough, allowed to watch Poltergeist, Gremlins, and Ghostbusters at a really young age though. :) I even saw one of the Nightmare On Elm Street sequels when I was flipping channels on the tv (although I kind of regretted that later that day because I was afraid to go to sleep lol).

When I was a kid, my parents didn't want us to watch wrestling and adult movies... coz some of the scenes there are sensitive..

HBO and Skinnymacks because they had nasty things on at night
Movies my parents were not really into movies they owed a vcr but hardly used it. They just use to wait till a movie came on tv.

my mom didnt like The Simpsons but she never said i couldnt watch it, i never had any restrictions. Whenever my family rented movies we got family movies and as for t.v we never had any of those channels that were explicit for kids, i never had any nightmeres either so..

Yeah, my mom wouldn't let me watch The Simpsons either. >_< She also didn't like me to watch Ren and Stimpy, but my dad would sometimes let me anyway.

I could watch most anything...my dad let me watch Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom when I was like two years old...it became one of my faves too. My dad basically let me watch anything, but my mom was more strict
