Some of you guys know that I talked about this once before but I think this might be a good time to bring it up again.
"Monkey Magic" was an anime series that I saw back in 1998. Lets just say that it was one of the most unusual cartoons that year. It aired Saturday mornings on an independent station at 6 am, before the prime viewing hours of 8 am to noon on the networks.
The whole series looked like a preview for the PlayStation video came that came later so I'm guessing development of the game was close to its release date as the cartoon was broadcast.
Monkey Magic is based on the 16th century Chinese novel, "Journey to the West" about a stone monkey statue that comes to life. Taking the name Kongo, the stone monkey takes a dislike to the way the Gods lord over the creatures of Earth. Kongo journeys to the Celestial Heavens where he challenges the Gods to fight over control of the Earth.
Kongo was winning until he meets The Guardian!
What happened next was far beyond anything I was expecting to see on what I considered a "television filler" cartoon:
The Guardian as Buddha...
