As a kid, I remember trips to the supermarket being like mini-adventures for me and my siblings. First, we'd lose our parents, then chase each other up and down the aisles. After that, we'd hit the meat section and poke holes in all the ground beef packages. To this day, I don't know why we did that. I suppose it was because the ground beef was squishy, like Play Doh or something.

What are some of the things you used to do at the grocery store?

I remember me and my cousins used to run up and down the aisles, pulling off those coupons that come out of those little machines. We liked to see who'd get the most.

Also, we'd play catch with the apples, onions and anything else that wasn't all ready in a bag.

My fondest Grocery Store memories include:

*The soft rock and r&b music played over the loud speakers
        and
        *The Bakery

When I was really young, I remember when there were arcade games in this Safeway in our town. I forget the names of them, but that was when I was really getting into video games.

I always liked going to the supermarket with my mom...I loved to jump on those colored tiles on the floor, and try not to hit the white ones. XD And when we got to the deli section the people working there would always give me free slices of cheese. I guess it was because I was such a cute little kid. lol. And one time my mom had a box with a piece of celery tied onto it(I have no clue why)in our cart, and I don't remember this, but she was putting the groceries in the trunk of our car and when she turned around she saw me gnawing on the celery....I don't know why I don't remember that. lol

I use to jump on the colored tiles too. I also use to bug my parents or my grandma if I went shopping with her for money so i could get something from the vending machine or ride a horse or something outside the store.

I also use to like to go to the 99 Price market and see all the interesting things there like whole frozen frogs.

When my mom wasn't looking I use to poke the fish eyes and squeeze the 3 Musketeers bars.

I thought my local Meijers was fun, just 'cause of that tank where you could look at the lobsters (which no longer exists due to complaints from PETA), and the giant animatronic plexiglass "purple cow" logo up on the dairy section of the store.

At this Albertsons, I always took coupons out of the machines, thinking they were some magic contraption that produced these... little papers with no meaning.

I really do have fond memories of the grocery store I went to during my childhood. In fact, I ended up working there for a year (which was my first "real" job).

                    Things I used to do?

Well, for starters, I remember the M&M cookies. If you went there with your parents, you'd get a free cookie. Of course, we'd just lie and say, "Hey, I'm here with my parents," and you'd end up getting one for free. Those things were so soft and so delicious!

Another thing I can remember is the promotions they used to have. From what I remember, they don't really do them anymore. You'd get a hot dog and a Dixie-cup-sized pop for something really cheap -- like $0.50; around the same time, booths would be set up, offering samples of things.

I remember getting doughnuts from the bakery. I also remember there were times where I would take candy from the candy containers with the scoop and eat it right there. I also remember eating grapes while shopping with my mom. She always ate the grapes before purchasing them.

Hey! Me and my cousins did that too! Then we'd try to ride bikes into the store and sit on the Coke displays, I would always stick my head between the produce and the top of the case because there are mirrors up there, and open all the freezer cases in a row.
Oh, and our local Piggly Wiggly, they had this theatre inside that always played Star Wars, with huge cardboard cutouts of C3PO and R2D2. If you bought a Disney book you got a free drink or Icee.
My grandma always shopped at Food Lion, because they take those food stamps or whatever, and I loved that one commercial where the people chopped the vegetables in mid-air. She always bought me Canada Dry, Nestle Quik, and Flintstones push-up pops.
