Very few TV stations in my town have station IDs anymore.

I haven't seen an honest-to-God station ID on a regular broadcast channel in ages. Then again, I don't watch those channels very much.

I think even Turner Classic Movies are doing away with some station ID showings on a regular basis. Remember the one with that song that starts with, "look for the silver lining"? I haven't seen that one in a while now.

I remember! Didn't know it had become UPN, though (never really thought to ask any relatives that still live there lol). Thats....depressing.

Since you're from philly, maybe you remember this...there used to be a guy on one of the networks there that would report everyday during the afternoon news on vegetables and stuff, he would always say something like "This is your Green Grocer tip of the day!" Don't know why that sticks out, but for some reason I loved his reports. I must have been a really odd child... :)

How bout cable channels? EVERY ONE of them used to air a 5-10 second ID before each program....Now...it's the split screen credits, then STRAIGHT to next show...

There is no creativity in network design anymore.

I'm with you on that one. I absolutely, positively HATE the stupid little "bugs" or whatever they're called that stations put on the bottom of the screen now to replace the station idents. Discovery Channels the worst, I'm trying to watch some kickass show about dinosaurs or something and then some huge animated graphic comes up and fills the bottom half of the screen advertising a new episode of American Chopper or something. It's SOOOO annoying!

I suppose so, but they aren't as common now as they were 20 years ago.

Honest-to-God station IDs are fixtures on KWGN (if you know what network they are affiliated with, you have an idea of what their IDs look like), KTVD (invariably before the 9:00 news), and Toon Disney (IDs serve as a quick transition between shows.).

I donated a KWGN ID to this site:

                    http://www.flnewscenter.com/

                    Find it from there.

Anyone else who can find any present day IDs on local stations, give us a link!

Dude, FX is just as bad, if not worse. I was watching The Green Mile with my dad tonight, and every five minutes or so, there was this GIGANTIC animated ad down in the corner for some show or other that I didn't care about.

Also, I was watching School of Rock on Cartoon Network (why are they even showing that anyway?) and every once in a while these HUGE graphics showed up at the top AND bottom of the screen, like a frame, advertising some more crap that I don't care about. I was irritated as hell. That was the worst instance of intrusive advertising that I've ever seen.

I also happen to hate credit-squashing with a passion. You can't even read the freaking names most of the time.

Anyway, I guess the reason we don't see station IDs anymore is because they integrate them into their endless onslaughts of promos. That and "bugs".

In the UK, we still have station IDs. We have "circular" IDs for BBC ONE, of which have different themes.

                        These include:

                        Motorcyclists
                        Sea Creatures
                        Soccer Players

                        and more!

For BBC TWO, we have the number 2 appearing as a window, a car sunroof, and many other things.

The list goes on and on.

I love the BBC indents! Some of the new ones are absolutely stunning to watch. The older indents with dancers and the BBC balloon are also great.

I actually downloaded them all from YouTube to watch over and over again.

It really is a shame that US TV has never mastered the art of the indent. They seem to put zero effort into them if they actually do them at all. :(

Actually, the US has pulled off some good IDs. The KWGN IDs used from 2005 to 2006 were pretty impressive (the one that stands out most in my mind was the one where the "WB2" logo is flashing in the clouds during a thunderstorm. IF I find it, I'll give you a link. Why? Because it's kinda rare).
