Richard Condie was behind alot of these,
Except "The Cat Came Back", though he was a producer as well as having to be the voice of the old man in that short.
my favorites from him are Oh Sure which is about two guys playing a game of show off that gets more and more rediculous as it goes on. Great tack piano music in that too.
I didn't much care for this one because of it's short premise and also being a very early work of his (not Bambi Meets Godzilla level but close). That was when the NFB just began it's Prairie Region studio in Winnipeg and Condie was one of the first guys who came in and showed off this little thing to get the ball rolling I think.
And also The Big Snit from 1985, I believe that one won a bunch of awards. It's about a bickering couple who make up while at the same time the world is being nuked.
That one was nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Short in '85, not sure what other awards it won, though the NFB's site would probably have a list or such.
I think the only thing Condie did that I ever liked so much was 1979's "Getting Started", as I can identify with the character and the dilemma he's through in trying to do get this thing done one lonely afternoon. We've all had those moments in our life when we had something that had to get done like writing an essay/term paper or an art project. You pace around the room, something catches your attention, you watch TV, read, stare at things, anything besides the one goal you have to accomplish...
