IMO, as far as action cartoons go, its only competition is Superman, Justice League, Gargoyles, and Beast Wars. And it's still the best of all of them

Batman: TAS is probably the greatest comic book series ever. Superman and Justice League are entertaining on their own ways and Batman Beyond put a stylish new twist on it, but nothing can ever top the original Batman. And it could be argued that Mask of the Phantasm was the best out of all the Batman movies (besides Batman Begins).

It was one of those shows where the people knew what Batman should be like and really went with it. :)

I can barely remember it. But I just bought the entire series on dvd so when I get around to watching it, I'll have a better answer.

To me Batman the Animated Series, Gargoyles, and Aeon Flux were the best cartoons of the 90's. I was going to mention Superman the Animated series but I only liked the episodes with Darkseid, Lobo, and Green Lantern.

Among the best I've ever seen. I love how it's written more like a crime drama then a super hero show, and the fact that it's written BETTER then most other crime drama's I've ever seen.

To me, Batman TAS is second best to Gargoyles. If anyone hates Gargoyles, let's just say we're better off not knowing each other.

P.S. You guys should really rent the 10th Anniversary DVD of Spawn TAS. You want a dark, bloody, and dirty adult animation show that's R rated in comparison to Batman TAS, don't miss it. I have it and it's so R rated yet amazing at the same time.

Gargoyles was great too. It was a very surprising move from Disney, but it shows how much the studio wanted to try new things.

It is a sign of how good I think BTAS is, that I cannot watch the newest incarnation of "The Batman". The Mask of the Phantasm is the best Btaman movie (and I include Batman Begins)

Other than that I'd say Tim Burton's Batman was good as well, but Schumacher's films just ruined the original movies. The only Schumacher one I can find decent enough now is Batman Forever: not too dark like Batman Returns and not as overly campy as Batman and Robin, even if Riddler and Two-Face were more extreme than neccecery.

At least the series had all the right versions of these villains.

I found the animation quite above par on the other Disney cartoons. Then I realized that all the animators were Japanese. But it's still a great show.

As for Batman: TAS, it was a rarity. For one thing, it didn't contain any comic relief or lighthearted moments like you got in many other shows at the time. It also showed bullets, something that many TV networks refuse to have in cartoons (they would often be replaced by lasers or other types of weapons). One of the rare early 90s cartoons that adults can enjoy fully.

And what are you talking about, no comic relief in Batman TAS?! Of course there is! "Harlequinade", "The Man Who Killed Batman", several Paul Dini written episodes, some episodes with Catwoman, etc.

Yeah I watched it even though I'm a guri. I still remember the episode where he was in some mental hospital, I only remember seeing him in a room in a strait jacket, and the ending where his butler gives him a shot. It didn't really look like he gave him a shot though. I also remember the episode where the Commisoner Gordon was injured and had to go the hospital. I remember Batamn blaming himself and wanting to give up being Batman.

I don't have a favorite from the 80s or 90s. There were just too many good ones! Of course now it's easy to pick your favorite since the 2000s are plagued with bad cartoons.

Basically, it was the best cartoon series in a while. That's the series (along with a few other cartoons of the early 90s) is what got me into animation. Excellent music, animation and voice acting.

I was not that impressed with the batman animated series. It just did not have those things that made batman special for me when I was a kid like whack...pow...crash...kapow...boink.

The Marvel ones were okay (mostly Spider-Man and X-Men) but DC always had the best interpitations. I noticed that sometimes Spider-Man had some reused animation, like this crossover with X-Men where they use the same footage of guards running towards them over and over.

Also most of the other 90's shows didn't last more than a couple seasons. At one point they had one of the Silver Surfer but the 2nd season was never completed cause Marvel had finally gone bankrupt, so that was probably their last 90's show. :(
