First off, before we discuss what we think the greatest High School movies of all time are. I want to shed light on this article I found on MSN.com. I was completely appalled. Why? Take a gander!

http://movies.msn.com/movies/moviesfeature/highschool?

First off, Pretty in Pink is on the Worst High School movie list. At first I thought "Ok...there must be a good reason". Nope! THEN on the best list, there are high school movies that I've never really heard of before and the biggest high school films are left out (Ferris Bueller, Breakfast Club, Grease, Clueless, etc).

Now, after we rant about this article, what do YOU think are the best High School movies of all time?

Wow, what a crappy list. I would add the ones you listed and add American Pie. Breakfast Club should have definitely been on there, it was way more revolutionary than anything on that list.

I'm all about Grease. What an awesome movie. I just can't believe that. The list sucks! Don't these people do any research?

        Best:
        Grease
        The Breakfast Club
Ferris Buller's Day Off (if SKIPPING a day of High School counts ;) )
        Lucas
Mr. Hollands Opus (even thought the movie was a bout a HS teacher)
        Election
        Heathers
        Pump Up The Volume
        Dazed & Confused
        16 Candles
Basically any mid-80's John Hughes flick...

        Worst:
High School Musical (both of them)
        Any Disney movie about HS.
        Dream A Little Dream
Clueless (I F****ng hated that movie!!!)
Any teen movie made after 1992.

          Best:

-John Hughes Movies (16 Candles, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club)
-Fast Times at Ridgemont High (not that any high schooler was able to see it without sneaking in)
          -Valley Girl
          -Some Kind of Wonderful
          -Ferris Bueller
          -Lucas
          -All The Right Moves
-Clueless (I liked it alright, it wasn't great or anything)
          -To Sir, With Love

          Worst:
          Pretty much anything else.

I like all the movies from your lists but I'd have to add Can't Buy Me Love...that movie was awesome.

              *begin rant*

this list is fairly terrible, not because of the movies that were put on/left off, but more because the author does a TERRIBLE job of arguing their points. the whole article is basically the author saying "look what indie/non-mainstream artsy movies i know about that take place in high school, and because i know of these movies, i know more about movies than you, and all of your opinions are irrelevant because you like mainstream films." the author just comes off as really elitist, and does a terrible job of explaining any rhyme or reason to the list. being a huge movie buff myself (indie and mainstream), it pisses me off that people who have seen a few indie movies suddenly think that they are christened with the right to judge what's good and bad. granted everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but at least defend your points adequately for pete's sake.

              *end of rant*
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

True. They probably rejected every popular movie to date.

I'm surprised nobody's brought up Napoleon Dynamite. It's got to be on the top ten list.

Grease is a classic and should be number one--even if just for the soundtrack alone. I actually bought the soundtrack before I saw the movie!

High School Musical wasn't that bad, folks. I think it's a good thing to have movies for the younger set without the smoking/drinking/sex that movies like Grease have. I actually enjoyed HSM and I'm a straight guy!

Since Mr. Holland's Opus was on there I should also bring up School of Rock--pretty good movie if I do say so.

On that MSN list I only agree about Rebel without a Cause about Fast Times Ridgemont High.

I don't know about best, but I was always fond of "Rock and Roll High School Forever" as a kid.

And I'd have to respectfully challenge "Dream a Little Dream" on the worst list...that's one of my favorite 80's movies! ;) Particularly since it wasn't quite as cookie cutter/formula as many of the others from that 'age'. I rank it up near the John Huges films...but thats just me :)

                          What about "Mac & Me"?
It's got a pretty sweet part where a kid in a wheelchair rolls off a cliff.

I can't tell you what the best one is, but to me the worst one is...

                                      Not Another Teen Movie

I'm actually making a script that has all the High School movies, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, George of the Jungle, The Graduate, Animal House, Blazing Saddles, and a character that looks like Jose Carioca from The Three Caballeros and calling it "The Crazy Life at Nixon High". It's guaranteed that you will laugh your ass off or your money back!

I really like Rushmore and Dazed and Confused. Fast Times at Ridgemont High is alright but not great. I've never been a Cameron Crowe fan (his Almost Famous usually gets number one or top 5 in rock music movie lists, I thought it was awful.) I thought Not Another Teen Movie was hillarious but all the other recent genre parody movies like Date Movie, Epic Movie, the Scary Movie series ect. are horrible. They have nothing on the genre paroides Mel Brooks has done.

The rest of the list I don't go for. I also agree on the John Hughes movies especially Ferris Bueller and Breakfast Club. Also Rock and Roll Highschool, PJ Soles is excellent in that, plus you get the Ramones and a highschool getting blown up, what more could you want?
