Did anyone else watch this show. Looking back I think the show was totally stupid and not very entertaining, but for some reason when I was a kid, I loved this show? Was anyone else intrigued by a stupid man with a moose puppet, and a whole lot of pingpong balls?

I don't remember the rabbit. I remember the moose, and some word of the day and ping pong balls, but no rabbit. Bummer. My memories keep getting fuzzier and fuzzier as I get older.:(

Yes, I loved him. And that "Mr Greenjeans" or whatever his name was.
I haven't seen it as an adult and I don't really remember much about it, but I am sure it is just as stupid as you say it is. I mean, just the name alone "Captain Kangaroo" seems ridiculous now.

LOL, I haven't seen it since I was a kid either, but yes, even the memory of it is ridiculous. Not just the name that is LOL!

Also, many years later I remember hearing that Mr Greenjeans got busted for being some kind of "pervert". I don't know if it was just a rumor, and back then I didn't even know what a pervert was.

does anyone remember a claymation segment from this show? there were a group of blobs, all were a different color. in this segment, theyre all playing around havin a good time. then all of a sudden, a mass of of black clay starts to surround them, getting closer and closer. they have to figure out a way to work together and get out of this situation. thats all i can really remember. i think maybe the red figure was the one who stepped up and led the struggle to leave...

im not even 100% sure if this was on Captain Kangaroo... its just been buggin the crap outta me...

Now I'm showing off. Captain Kangaroo was in black and white when I watched as a kid. For my mom Captain Kangaroo was an easy way to keep me "busy" while she did housework.

Thank god for my toys, Captain Kangaroo was the show that never ends, I mean ALL morning long. Think it started at 8am until 10am or something like that. Everyday.

One day I used my toy soldiers to reenact WW II and Captain Kangaroo was only on the singing flower doing "I'm a Lonely Little Petunia in an Onion Patch" meaning I still had 45 minutes to go. Plenty enough to rebuild Europe.

But I never understood the show. The cartoons made no sense to me. Tom Terrific with Mighty Manfred the Wonder Dog, Lariat Sam with his horse Tippy Toes. Both were weird to me. Grandfather clock would talk and talk and I never understood a word he'd say. Then there were the ugly singing puppets and that creepy Dancing Bear. What a show!

By the time the CBS Mid-Day News with Douglas Edwards came on I was ready for a dose of reality. My mom had the whole house clean by then too.

The show lasted 30 years from the mid 50's until the mid 80's. It is hard to believe he was a marine war hero at Iwo Jima. he became a very gentle soul who loved children.
