Didn't see another thread on this.

When I think about 80's humor, satire, comedy, I tend to group it all together. How would you describe it?

It was fun, clean humor. It wasn't dirty or vulgar, at least not like today.

-Mad Magazine

-The jokes on the back of Garbage Pail Kids.

-Alot of movies like spaceballs, police academy. I dont know if you'd call it screwball comedy. It wasn't like the 3 stooges. Light hearted? Soft?

What are your memories of 80's humor? Anything specific? How would you categorize it? Do you like it better than today.

Well, i describe 80s comedy as 70% good clean comedy and 30% of what i like to refer to as toilet humor. So it was not as vulger and disgusting as some of todays comody movies. :)

Most comedy today seems aimed towards "shock value". There was some of that in the 80's but it is pretty tame compared to present standards. Although some of it is funny it tends to get old after a while. If you liked Napoleon Dynamite or Office Space, those are two good present examples of truly funny comedy without going for toilet humor. But,those kind of movies are rare nowadays.

Parody and satire were big at that time. The show SCTV was highly popular at the start of the decade.

Chirstopher Guest got started on his mockumentaries at that time, he put together Spinal Tap with Rob Reiner and a few mockumentary shorts for Saturday Night Live.
