i think that toys these days don't lead much to the imagination, cause toys these days are mostly have sound effects and are mostly based on tv shows or films

I know what you mean. And its surprising that Lego Friends are selling well. There's not much imagination left for the kids anymore with Lego sets, imo.

i can't see the point of lego sets these days i mean if you wanted to build something like a car then you can just buy lego that looks a bit like a car, what was wrong with building one to how you want

Because building one how you want is much more fun then buying one that looks like a car, not only that but i think that toys these days don't really encourage much role play,

to be honeat most toys these days don't seem to be unisex and forgive for bringing up lego again I'm only using it as an example but that was one of the toys that both boys and girls could play with but now you get lego that is for only boys cause you now have things such as lego ninjago and chima and lego only for girls there is lego friends

This is true, but doesn't that describe 80s and 90s toys to a tee as well? I'd argue it was even worse back then - TV shows were used specifically to sell toys.

When I started purchasing toys for my kids in there younger years I had noticed they don't have the same scale,"depending on line" Sturdiness, that they used to have. He-man , GI-Joe, Transformers, Tonka Trucks YOU COULD BANG THOSE ALL OVER THE PLACE! ! THEY WOULD HARDLY EVER BREAK! ! Today "I think" to cut costs there made out of that cheap plastic. Also the Home Bases, Layers, Ships, those things were huge! ! GI-Joe_USS Flag, Transformers_Metroplex/Fortess Maximus, He-Man_Castle Grey Skull/Snake Mountain, Go Bots "yes" Command Center. I don't really see toys on that scale in the isles anymore unless it's Hot wheels, they've managed to stay original.

Bikes today suck ass. The BMXs I've bought for my son are crap compared to my old Schwinn.

I've been casually collecting figures for a while now, but I'm disappointed more often than not. I totally agree about everything based off movies or shows or whatever and I understand the marketing aspect. But in the 80s & 90s, the toy line came first and anything after was to promote it.

I actually have a cool idea for a retro-ish toy line that will never be more than an idea, sadly.

Psshhh like I'm gonna tell? j/k

It's basically a mish-mash of genres meant to encourage imagination along with collecting. There would be a group of G.I. Joe type misfits, aliens who turn people into zombies and also cross-species animals. So it could be an apocalyptic/sci fi/horror/kaiju-esque thing with fun accessories.

The only difference is that you played with the toys back then. Now they play you.
