Hi,

What are your memories of Elton John?

Elton John (most of his song lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin) had been known to accomplish these feats:
*Rack up a string of U.S. #1 Billboard pop hits each year from 1972-1976
*Place a single in the U.S. Billboard Top 40 pop charts each year from 1970-1999
*All his 1975 albums (bar the re-release of his 1969 debut LP, Empty Sky), Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy and Rock of the Westies, debuted at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Pop Albums charts during their respective first weeks of release (June 7 and November 8, 1975).

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, a double album released in October 1973, was known to be his most popular album to date.

His first Top 40 single in the U.S. was "Your Song" from 1970 (#8 pop), the second single off his self-titled second album released the same year (made #4 on U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Album Charts). His first album to make #1 on the Billboard charts was the 1972 release Honky Chateau which contained the hits "Rocket Man (I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time)" and "Honky Cat."

His first #1 single in the U.S. was "Crocodile Rock," off his early 1973 LP Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player.

He recorded a cover of The Beatles' "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" in late 1974 with John Lennon on guitar and backing vocals. It made #1 in January 1975.

I saw him in concert, when I was a freshman in highschool. Great show. I think that was my very first concert, actually. :)

In school there was a guy named Joe that started calling himself "Elton Joe" pretty funny. I like Elton John's music very talented.

My ex-girlfriend really liked his stuff. I purchased a copy of "Too Low For Zero" as a Christmas present for her in 1999. After we broke up in 2000, it took me a long time to enjoy Elton John's music again. I now enjoy it, though. My favorite song is "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues".

I think it would be all of the support he gave Ryan White.. His music rocks and It's hard to pick a favorite. My first purchased cassette tape was "Sacrifice" when it came out in the late 80's... Then as I grew I bought more cassettes than CD's and now my ipod is full of Elton.

He did give Ryan White a lot of support. Even dedicated Candle in the Wind to Ryan at his performance in Farm Aid 4 the night before Ryan passed away.

He did a really awesome job singing Goodbye England's Rose at Princess Diana's funeral.
It's OK, next time I'll make you listen. I wish that it were in the power of all children to say that to their parents and to know that indeed they would be heard as we were in those wonderful days on Waltons Mountain.Narrator The Waltons (From the Runawa

My first memory was that my mom had one of his records. I don't know if it was greatest hits or what, but he was dressed in white with his trademark glasses and holding a scary-looking cane. For some reason, the guitar growl during "Rocket Man" scared me. It was almost the same growl in "Afternoon Delight". Geez, I was scared of everything, haha.

Has anyone seen Tommy? I am not a big fan of Elton's but If I hear about him the Pin Ball Wizard in the movie Tommy is what immediately comes to my mind.
Ask me about my Ballcuzzies

The one memory i have of Sir Elton John was of him saying that the worst thing he ever did was marry a woman.

Not to be rude, but he actually had performed the song later the same day that Mr. White had died (this occurred the moment Elton began feeling emotional after 90 seconds into performing his 1983 hit "I'm Still Standing"). Elton's appearance at this Farm Aid installment was at the request of the White family.

Also, the "Goodbye England's Rose" line is the new opening lyric for "Candle in the Wind '97" (which was a surprise #1 hit, his first in the US since 1976) which of course was dedicated to Princess Diana of Wales, just as the original "Candle" was dedicated to Marilyn Monroe ("Goodbye Norma Jean") and countless other celebs who all died young.
