I've searched here, and a number of other places online, with no success. I'm looking for a movie I saw playing on TV in the early 80's. I saw it multiple times, so I know it wasn't a single made for TV movie. Here's what I remember of the story:
2 guys (one age 40 to 50, the other at least 10 year younger) steal a family station wagon, from a family residence. I believe the 2 guys were thieves of some sort, possibly bank robbers. They steal the car to get away after some job, and accidentally kidnap a young girl, who must've been in the car when they stole it. I believe the girl's mother is a single parent, possibly a widow. The thieves don't know what to do, but decide they don't have time to take here back, and can't exactly drop her off at a police station. The police do get involved though, as the mother reports her car and daughter have been taken from her. A good portion of the film consists of the 2 guys and the girl driving around in the car. Over the course of the film, an innocent bond forms between the guys and the girl. They can't take her back, but they don't want anything bad to happen to her. The whole timeframe for the movie is short as I recall, perhaps a day or two, but I'm not sure. The movie ends with law enforcement finally catching up the the trio, at some place they were lying low. They guys get arrested, but only charged with the robbery, not with the kidnapping. The girl is reunited with her mother. However, the girl feels bad about the guys getting arrested, because of the bong they formed during their short time together.
Unfortunately, I can't remember a single actor from the movie. I think the last time I saw it was when I was 5 at most. This one has been frustrating me for some time, and I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could provide in helping me figure out which movie this was.
