Though it was made in 2000, it sounded very 90s. I kinda remembered doing it at a party.

I never even knew about the Cha Cha Slide until 2009. I think it was DJ Casper who sang it (was he named after 'The Friendly Ghost'?). Heard the song at a couple of parties, but haven't since. I hate that song a lot.

And I thought I read somewhere (Wikipedia, maybe?) that the song dated back to around 1996? That may explain why the song sounded so 1990's.

The sound effects, and the singing. It doesn't sound 2000s at all. 2000 still had a big influence on 90s culture.

      90s:

      literally? 1990-1999
      culturally? 1991-2001

It actually sounds like a throwback to the 80s.

I do have to admit, I hated (and still do hate) Cha Cha Slide so much, I stopped going to dances as of 2010. I really enjoyed going to dances regularly, but Cha Cha Slide ruined it for me. Plus I have an avatar in Second Life that can take part in virtual dance parties every day - I really enjoy it more now, and if Cha Cha Slide plays (thankfully I only heard it once, turned it off pretty quickly) I turn off tha audio.

I was at the boardwalk in Point Pleasant a few years ago, and there was a guy in front of the ice cream place we were going to that was dancing to the Cha Cha Slide.

The reason why "Cha Cha Slide" sounded very 1990s was because it was actually released on August 2,1998. Many dance songs around that time period basically had the same beats, including the 1999 remix of Earth Wind & Fire's "September". Certain beats would be recycled by many different artists during a period of a few years. The beats on "Cha Cha Slide" were not heard much on any new songs by 2002.
