There was a movie I watched a while back on tv that I have been trying to remember now.

There was a woman coming over from Ireland with her daughter about the early 1900's? (I think it was the 1900's it may have been earlier than that)

Well on the ship her mom talks to her daughter about this hand held mirror that she brought with her. Something about it being a part of them both and a family heriloom or something. Well the mom I think died on the ship. So, her daughter is now an indentured servant to a family in Boston (I think)

The girl now serves this rich family or a mom & dad, with a son about her age. Well, ofcourse they fall in love. So, the mother tells her son if you shack up with her your cut out of the will. He says fine and they leave together.

Then they have a daughter to gether. He becomes a doctor to the Indians. Then the girl from Ireland dies giving birth to the son and the son also dies. The guy then raises his daughter like a boy and lives with the Indians.

Eventually he has to send his daughter to his mom to make her more of a lady. So, the grandmother takes the girl in.

That's all I can remember of it now. I could have sworn the girl (of the Irish servant and rich boy) was Helen Hunt or Lea Thompson but I don't see it listed as a movie for either one. I think it was for the tv and not at the movies.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ok, I may have found it for myself now and it does have Lea Thompson in it.

    A Will of Their Own

Miniseries examining the changing role of women in America as seen through the eyes of three generations of one family. In 1894, 19-year-old immigrant Annie Jermaine sails from Europe to become the housemaid for a wealthy American doctor. Later, Annie shatters social taboos when she marries the doctor's son and trains as a nurse, but she is never allowed to use her medical knowledge because of the belief that patients won't trust a woman. The saga follows Annie's descendants as they struggle with prejudices against the women of their time: daughter Amanda is a rebellious photo journalist who lives a bohemian lifestyle; granddaughter Sarah, raised as a debutante, later becomes the lonely wife of a powerful U.S. Senator; and great-granddaughter Susan grows up as a hippie and becomes a doctor, opening a health clinic for battered women.
