What does the Tex Avery Show and ''So You Think You Can Dance?'' have in common? Well, here I am watching the season 4 finalle of ''S.Y.T.Y.C.D.?'' and the various dance acts going on. One of which consisted of the top 5 male dancers. Now I'm eating dinner and not paying too much attention to the show. Yet as the dance number goes on I find myself humming along and liking this fast paced catchy song. Not to mention a song I've never heared of before. I look up to see them dressed/dancing in the style of (as far as I could figure) 1930's up tempo jazz. During the number I hear such lyrics as......
''We're the greatest band around,
make the cats jump up and down,
we're the talk of rhythm town,
five guy's named Moe.''
I'm having no idea why I'm able to hum along. Untill it affected me subliminally or something and woke up a dormant nastalgic memory. Thus, I start singing to my self......
''He is so the genius man.
He makes cartoons like no one can.
He is the best, give him a hand.
Tex Avery!''
Man! If it was a snake, it would of punched me. They were the same song! Later on I did some research on the net and found some info. The name of the song performed was called ''Five Guys Named Moe.'' From a 1990 musical by the same name. Music and lyrics by Larry Wynn and Jerry Bresler. This song must of inspired the lyrics used for the second theme song of the Tex Avery Show. What a find. Something I thought would be interesting to share with anyone else on Retro Junk. Moral: one actually can learn something from Fox. Who Knew?
