It's no secret that the television industry was built with tobacco company money. Cigarettes are the cash cow. Until 1971 cigarettes were Everywhere on TV. A senator once asked "what's next, cigarette ads on Saturday morning kids shows?".

Why am I posting this? I wanted to show the intro to "The Farmer's Daughter" the 1963 ABC sitcom starring Inger Stevens and William Windom. But the sponsor's pitch is interlaced and to edit it out messes it up. Hanna-Barbera got it right when the "Flintstones" went to syndication - just re-do the intro and closing to take the cigarette ads out.

Here's The Farmer's Daughter youtube link and I find it interesting:

that is pretty interesting. Being born after the time of tv and radio cigarette ads, it's weird to me to see anything other than a billboard or paper ad.

There are other shows where the ads are melded into the shows opener, you have the scrap the first few minutes of the show in order to remove all traces of cigarettes. I've chatted with people who are offended by these old ads. Therefore I'm reluctant to post some old shows I remember. Don't want to offend anyone on RJ.
