It must have happened sometime in the last three years. As you can see other than part of the drivway you can't even tell there was a school there. Even though I hated going there it still kind of sad that everything I remember about that place in gone.

Edit: I just found it at http://www.historicaerials.com. It looks like they added a wing on in the early 60s which explains why that part looked different when I went there. They also expaned the parking lot in the early 70s. I remember the teachers saying one of the wings caught fire in the 70s and had to be remodled. That part looked very 70s from what I remembered.

My old high school is still standing. It was built in the mid 50s after the old school in a different location burnt to the ground on Thanksgiving night. They built the new school on the site of an old airport. They have done three additions to it since it was built, but the original wings are still in use to this day. When I went there in the 90s it was like walking through different periods of time. The first addition was very 60s looking, the second which was the new front entrance was kind of 70s looking (added in 1973) and the newest addition was done after I graduation. I still remember the smell different parts of the school had.
The schools around here especially where I live now built some pretty elaborate schools and sport arenas. I'm kind of jealous these kids get to go to new schools while I went to old outdated ones. My biggest complaint was how the classrooms were either too cold or too hot (usually too cold) .
My Elementary School, which I live close to, closed down about a year after I graduated from it. It is still standing, but it's been empty for eight years.
Our gradeschool is still standing. It's right near my parents house. However, it hasn't been a school since probably 1994/95. They shut it down and now use it as the town office. The knocked down the walls inside the building to create office spaces. They still have a picture or two up on the wall from when I was in 4th of 5th grade back in like 91 or 92. They won't let you go downstairs though, it's blocked off. That really sucks because i'm so curious to see what it looks like down there. I spent the majority of my years there downstairs (K-4th grade) and only spent 5th and 6th grade up there before they transfered us to a different school in 7th grade.
Holy cow, that's awful. I can't imagine that happening. They try to renovate around here, or build on the property. My high school is 120 years old and still standing.

I know how you feel. Funny if they hadn't thought about what else to put there right now. Probably be a strip plaza or a Wal-Mart one day. That's what happened to one two story school building down the street from me, half it's land became a gas station and tire repair shop. It's baseball/football field was left intact though.

That's not a bad looking building. I've seen buildings like this where I am anyway that were built between the 1930's-60's that are still standing. Sadly a school district south of me decided to spent some 10 billion on tearing down nearly all the schools it has and replacing them with newbie buildings that seem cold and less fun to me. My school district hadn't gotten to that point yet thankfully, but they had decided to replace the windows/plexi blocks with newer, smaller ones that don't seem to bring it sufficient lighting, or even let someone try to escape in an emergency (since they have screens).
Things just never stay the same for long.

It goona happen to me next year my first elementary I went to ( kindergarden thru 2) will be demolish. I had good times there running around threw out the school with out nobody stopping me, playing Superman and Batman with my best friend with our wind breakers, Punch the bully in the nose to defend the honor of girl I like. There's alot more good and bad I would like to put down but I don't want to bore anybody. also My Junior High School was torn down this summer that just makes me mad too.
My elementary school, Oak Grove Elementary (I), is currently divided in two as of Y2K: the annex, which came about circa 1960, is now known as Sojourner Elementary, while the older part of the building (which originally opened as a single-level building in 1924, and had been expanded gradually up to 1959) is now known as New Urban High School.
My other elementary school, Concord Elementary - which I'd attended from September 1987 to mid-February 1988 - is still standing as of late. Originally, Concord Elementary was built in 1856, and in 1890 was the first one-room schoolhouse in the area. 20 years later, it was rebuilt as a two-room schoolhouse, and then the final version of the school (the brick building) was built in 1936, with an addition in 1948.

They tore down the Elementary schools that I attended (two, which are in the same town. One of them goes from K-2nd grade, the other goes from 3rd-5th grade). But they were both remodeled. Looking back on my grade school years (1990-1997) I was kind of disappointed with the changes. It's just not the same as it used to be. :(
