"Scarface" is one of my all-time favorite movies. It's a recurring theme in my articles as well. Great drama, great looks, great action, great dialogue...Would you believe that this movie was a critical and box-office disaster when it was first released? It's a classic now, but I think that's because of people who were born in the 80s.

No. Sorry, but I will forever consider this to be the single most over-rated Mob movie (and believe me, I've seen a whole lot of'em). The drama never drew me in, and for any mob movie, that should be the focus. The whole, potentially, 'incestuous' relationship he had with his sister was also a real deal breaker. But what really got me was how they filmed those scenes with her, using that whole slow mo, Vaseline lens... cheezy even for its time. Yeah, who doesn't like the murder and action scenes, but that alone doesn't do it for me.

Not to mention that Al Pacino just doesn't convince me as a Cuban (and I've met more than one Cuban and speak Spanish). This is a movie that I think it became popular for all the wrong reasons.

Great movie, ranks with "The Godfather 1 & 2" and "Goodfellas".
I'm a fan of the movie because of several reasons. Probably the biggest one is that I rented it one evening when I slept over at a friend's house back in 2001. We both loved the movie and lines from it became a recurring theme between us. This friend moved away several years ago, so whenever I watch "Scarface", not only do I enjoy the movie, but I'm also reminded of a friendship that, for all its' troubles and its' ignominious end, was one of the formative experiences of my life.
I love Scarface for all the right reasons. It has a great story, a decent cast (Mostly unknown except for Al Pacino), gruesome death scenes, and a profanity laden script that would make a sailor blush. What I hate about the movie is that it has such a reputation for being every asshole douchebag hip hop star's favorite movie and all of them think this movie is about their lives. You're not hot shit...you're just shit.

This movie is the perfect grindhouse picture. yes inspite of a big budget, big name star, big name director, and playing multiplexes it's still an exploitation movie in the vain of Black Ceaser.

I never saw it until a couple years ago. I didn't like it and thought it was way overrated. The ghetto kids that love it and aspire to be Scarface....I really don't get that. Um, the message of the movie is that ultimately that lifestyle will destroy you and everyone around you? Why then make that guy your hero?

Your guess is as good as mine. I still love the movie and its in my top 20 with The Empire Strikes Back at number one and Aliens in number two.
You also gotta love it for it's soundtrack! Giorgio Moroder's music made this movie!
