Hey guys, I'm new to this forum... I've searched but can not find a reason for my question.

I know James Avery was replaced for a time on the classic TMNT cartoon, but does anybody know why? I was watching some of my DVD's of that series the other night and the voice change was very distracting. So distracting, that I had to skip some episodes... it sounded so wrong.

I need Uncle Phil's voice coming from ol' Chrome Dome !!!
I love this cornbread so much I wanna take it back

behind a middle school and get it pregnant.

They had something like 40 episodes in season 3, all of them took a break at one point and had fill in voices which sucked BTW. Anyone remember how bad Craigs voice was in the episode "Green with Jealousy"?

I never noticed any changes in the voices in the original TMNT. But then again, I haven't seen all the episodes. The only thing I didn't like about the original was how it went back and forth from being serious to campy. I also didn't like the fact how the animation style changed. To me at the first the animation was well done, went to crap, and then got better again. I could be wrong though.

Maybe it's because of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. TMNT was still airing when that show started back in 1990.

He was also the voice of Fang the giant in the 1986 anime of "Fist of the North Star".

There might have been but he is a good voice actor but there are alot out there. Best voice actor In my opinion is Frank Welker.

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I remember the horrible Raphael replacement and then a few episodes where Donatello's voice was re-cast and the guy doing it sounded just like Scooter from Muppet Babies.... maybe it was the same guy? I think Greg Berg did that voice, but I didn't catch his name on the credits...

The art DID vary a lot throughout the shows run. Bandanna colors would shift mid-sentence and the smoothness of the movements was a bit jittery from time to time.... still, I love this show. I watch it for the laughs and the nostalgia overall though.

He did. Barry Gordon was the original. He was also in Darkwing Duck as a Dinosuar viallan who sounded like Donatello

                              Yep. Takineko comes to mind.

And I just recently found out that James Avery actually played Shredder, which was cool.

                              His voice is great.

Not too bad of a bump, but just thought I'd add in how I loved Paulsen's portrayal of Raph. He's perfect for voicing witty, sarcastic characters.
