For the life of me, I will never understand why Topper Toys used the moniker "Johnny" on so many of it's toys in the 1960's. So pervasive were the ad campaigns that one day my mom asked me to explain it to her. I couldn't.
Well here is a partial list of some of the toys I'm talking about.
Johnny Astro:This is unusual. Johnny Astro is a balloon spacelander toy that uses a fan controller to guide the lander to a remote target. I had one but I was unable to guide the lander, except into a wall.

Johnny Eagle Guns:This was a series of Rifle/Pistol combos that was notable for its available wall mounts, each tailored to the type of gun combo displayed. I never had any Johnny Eagles, but I thought the wall mounts were awesome.

Johnny Express Trucks:Another toy I never got! This was one sweet truck too. Johnny Express was a BIG truck because it was all plastic. It's claim to fame was accessories - LOTS of accessories! You could add a whole series of trailers to Johnny Express and with the battery powered controller run the truck over everyone's feet. Oh yeah, Johnny Express was a big truck!

Johnny Lightning 1969:Shame, shame on Topper Toys for this Hot Wheels copy! Yes Topper Toys was taken to court by Mattel over this no no.

Johnny Seven O.M.A.:I've already posted about Johnny Seven, remember OMA = One Man Army. There was a very good chance that my entire generation was headed off to war so we hand to be ready! The problem was the Johnny Seven was more advanced than anything the armed services had at the time.
Johnny Speed:The IDEAL Toy company OWNED Christmas in the 1960's. The only thing Topper Toys could do to stay in the game was SIZE. May I present Johnny Speed, the biggest remote controlled Jaguar/Corvette mashup ever! This baby was so big I had trouble finding anywhere inside the house to play with it! The massive battery pack to run Johnny Speed meant that you couldn't hold the control stick in your hand. Take it outside? No way - might get it dirty!
Johnny Service 1966:Not one toy but three. A body shop, a car wash and a garage - take your pick or bug your parents for all three. I was so worn out from lifting Johnny Speed, I had no interest in Johnny Service. Got a nice set of biceps though, LOL!

Johnny Toymaker:Tired of running to the store to buy toy cars? Well with Johnny Toymaker you can make your own toy cars at home! Yes, homemade toy cars. The drawback, they all looked like homemade toy cars! You could paint them yourself, now everyone will laugh at you!

If you know of any other "Johnny" toys, please, keep it to yourself.
Naw, Just Kidding! :D
