I have a little brother and i'll watch cartoons when I come home from college with him and they just seem so dumb. Especially compared to the cartoons I used to watch. Like Quack Pack, Mighty Ducks, the original TMNT, X-men, Batman, Street Sharks, Biker Mice From Mars, Extreme Dinosaurs, Captain Simeon and the Space Monkeys, etc.... Is it because they truly are dumb compared to my childhoods cartoons or is it because i'm not a kid I don't enjoy them like I used too? That's why I only enjoy my cartoons that I saw as a kid?

You know if you think about it, today's cartoons are just like the ones you saw. You only like the ones you mentioned because you saw those FIRST. so itd be the same if it were vice versa.

This is so true. With the exception of TMNT, all those cartoons were on in my teen yrs and I thought they were lame compared to stuff that I saw when I was a kid like Smurfs, The Littles, GI Joe, Muppet Babies, Tailspin and Ducktales. I didn't understand Quack Pack at all esp. after watching DuckTales!

right, with all the stuff we grew up with like 4 mutant turtles that practiced ninjitsu and ate pizza or the shark men who surfed under the street, we had the normal stuff didn't we?

the cartoons that kids watch nowadays will be the cartoons that they will remember when they grow up. Eventually, they will dedicate a web site to the stuff they watched, listened to, ate, played with, the video games, commercials they watched, and whacky moments in their lives, but for now all we can do, is tell them that what we had will always be better.

The old ones are better, funnier and more memorable.

But there are hilarous cartoons today like Billy and Mandy, Flapjack, and Chowder
              those shows kill me.

Man, I remember when I first came to this site...the most popular thing to do here was to complain and bash "the new stuff". Now, complaining about the new stuff is very unpopular, and defending the new stuff is popular. My how times have changed.

Despite this, I'm going to throw my two cents in about today's cartoons. Nobody can deny that cartoons these days are more sugar-coated for kids, and revolve much more around humor than action and adventure. That's probably why anime became so popular here over the last decade...cause American cartoons just weren't violent anymore (except the ones that were styled after anime). The thing that really bugs me the most about the cartoons of today, however...is the animation. I just feel that the animation in most shows today is slapped together really fast with no effort involved. Not all cartoons have this crappy animation, but a good majority of them do. Good examples are Billy & Mandy, Fairly Odd Parents, Chowder, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, etc. The animation in those shows look like something a kid doodled while he was in school.

I wasn't bashing anything I just wanted an opinion. It makes since though that what I seen as a kid is memorable to me and will be to my little brother when he gets older.

There are some good new shows out there, One which particularly surprised me was The Spectacular Spider-man. Man that show is solid and dare I say possibly even better than the 90's Animated Series.

With the exception of post-"whatever" cartoons like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, I don't care for contemporary animation at all. Saturday morning lineups in my day consisted of Space Ghost, Thundarr the Barbarian, Smurfs, Herculoids, Scooby Doo, G.I. Joe, and Voltron. Today's stuff doesn't measure up. It is to be expected that all people will venerate the shows from their childhood. But that doesn't mean the quality is equivalent. When it comes to duel audience cartoons, things like Aesop's Fables and Roger Ramjet still beat today's animation.

Well, stuff like Roger Ramjet and Aesop's Fables (from Rocky & Bullwinkle), were pretty funny.
