Well as anyone who knows me will know that I'm a huge Muppet fan.

So I got to thinking Sesame Street now is almost pretty much "the Elmo show." I don't hate Elmo, but their are some characters that it would like to see make a comeback (though it's not like I still watch the show or anything, )

Anyway here's a few I can think of...

Roosevelt Franklin
Sadly, this character for some people's taste wasn't very "PC" for a children's show. Remember too this was during the more laid back 70s, he wouldn't even be consider for Sesame Street today. Still the character became hugely popular even getting his own album.

Guy Smiley

It was so much fun to watch Jim Henson perform Guy Smiley. He was over the top and fun. Though I've been hearing he's been making a bit of a comeback as recent as 2006 or something like that, first time he's been since Jim's death.

Oh yeah, Guy Smiley was a great all-around skit character. Guy could turn any scene into a "game show". Maybe that's why we see less of him lately.

I'm really not familiar with what muppets they have gotten rid of...as I haven't watched Sesame Street in years. I have heard that Elmo is basically the main muppet they focus on now...and the rest of them like Big Bird, Grover, Oscar, etc, are hardly featured anymore.

Good ones to mention. I think Little Bird is still featured in Sesame Street books, though since Elmo rules all, probably not. :?

Here are a few characters I'd like to see return:

              The Two-Headed Monster

I'd like to see Joey Mazzarino and Jerry Nelson (or at least with David Rudman, Baby Bear's performer) return to perform the Two-Headed Monster again. We haven't heard from them after Journey to Ernie was taken off, and Joey is a suitable successor to the late Richard Hunt.

              The Amazing Mumford

For those too young to remember, he was the inept magician who whose tricks would never come out right. If Jerry is unable to perform Mumford due to his age and COPD, maybe he could just voice him instead.

              Ruby

This curious tomboy was one character that came up during the "neo-old school" period from 1988 to 1992, when there were several new (and short-lived) characters introduced. Ruby is severely underdeveloped like most of them, and if Camille Bonora can't play her again, maybe Leslie Cararra or Stephanie D'Abruzzo would be fitting substitutes.

              Benny Rabbit

Perhaps one of Kevin Clash's best (and grumpiest!) characters, he would make a great sidekick for Oscar.

Oh, and Snuffy, Big Bird, Grover, and Oscar are still around; they're just underused due to there being so few episodes each season nowadays (26 compared to 130 several years past). And I don't mind Abby Cadabby. I do mind that producers are forcing her into the show every chance they get just like they did with Elmo and Zoe.

Guy Smiley actually did make a comeback in a recent episode.

I say just bring the show back to a 90s format. I like Elmo too but does he really need his own 20 minutes at the end of every episode? I don't think so!

Yeah it would be nice if Kermit the frog was back, back at least he's not all together gone like many other Sesame Street Muppets.

At least Disney has a deal with Sesame Workshop in which they are allowed to show old Kermit footage. Disney won't even do that with Hit entertainment for old Henson releases, which is why such Jim Henson specials like Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas and the Christmas toy, which had Kermit opening the specials, are now edited out without Kermit.
