And here I thought for sure you were going to say the 90's Turtle trilogy. LOL.

But yeah, I would say BTTF or Indiana Jones (I don't count number four, since it was just too stupid to be an actual Indiana Jones movie).

-Toy Story (1995-2010)One of the few trilogies that I find
to almost perfect. Practically defines a whole generation
and having the people who watched the first one in 90's as
kids grew up with it. And when the third movie came around,
the trilogy matured along with the fans until it finally
      came to a satisfying closure.

          Godfather trilogy.

The first two films have won Oscars for "Best Picture" No other trilogy has ever done that.

          Ever.

Didn't one of the people who worked on the film said that the toys
freezing up in front of humans is acting on an involuntary function
            (like breathing)?

The Lord of The Rings came awful close, having all 3 nominated but only Return of The King won.

Besides the obvious; Star Wars, Indy, Back to the Future, Toy Story......I may go with Mad Max. From a story standpoint, there isn't much of an arch, but the visuals and tone have influenced so much of what we have now.

That's right, it did. I forget all about that.

I wonder what other trilogies came close.

Back to the Future and Evil Dead are pretty much a tie for me but if there were a gun to my head I think Evil Dead eeks out a win.

Toy Story 4 was the last film in the Toy Story franchise, not Toy Story 3.

Yep. Disney refused to close the trilogy unless they came up with a idea that is Toy Story 4.
