The actual name of this film is "Star Odyssey" from 1979.
This movie sets the standard for all bad films for all time.

Gettin' drunk first might help, but it's doubtful:

Oh Edd. Edd, edd, edd... It's obvious you have not watched War of the Robots. I only have to see the costumes and robot prop you've shown here, and just from that I can easily tell this film had a higher production value than WOTR.

WOTR was the first film we watched together in the RetroDaze Public Theater. Some of the members who watched it there are members here too. Any of them will affirm what I have said here.

It is the stuff of nightmares. lol

EDIT: HA! This movie has some of the very same costumes/sets/sounds as WOTR. This is made by the same people who made WOTR. Hilarious!

EDIT 2: Yeah. They upped the budget for this Star Odyssey, as at least the space ships fire lasers and move in a little more convincing manner. Also they have put together some "robots" for this outing that aren't just the gold Amish guys running around. LOL

You got me right in the jewels GOV, lol!

Oh yeah, "Star Odyssey" is part of the famous Al Bradley trilogy featuring "War of the Robots" and "War of the Planets".

Of the three I found Star Odyssey both awful and funny.

Take the R2D2 ripoff, it looks like a plastic oil drum on wheels with someone inside gesturing with arms poking out through holes cut into the sides.

And then there are the two Love Bots, Tilly and Tilk - unbelievable!
Remember the exchange when they saw the oil drum bot:

Tilk - "Great integrated circuits, what's that thing? Look Tilly, a prehistoric cave robot".
Tilly - "I've never seen anything so ugly".

Why do the Love Bots have robo monkey faces? prehistoric indeed.

"Star Odyssey" should have been named "Weekend at Professor Mauri's House" since most of the action takes place at the professor's country estate. Even the aliens land their flying saucer conveniently on the estate's grounds.

Remember that scene in the professor's lab when Tilk the Love Bot adds elemental antimony to Shawn and Bridget's experiment? The whole Star Odyssey gang ducks behind the front counter, in case the lab explodes. Just like something from an old situation comedy.

And don't get me started on all the Close-Ups! Waay too many close-ups. When Dirk hypnotizes Hollywood - ugh!

Plus the endless close-ups when Kress mind-links with Professor Mauri - I just look away!

Yep, Star Odyssey still gets my vote for the worst of the worst, lol.

      Cardboard light-sabers? Ohhh pleease!

I don't even know if you can consider them a "trilogy", since they seem to be filmed as self contained and having nothing to do with each other. Old Al just took some sets, costumes, props, and actors and re-purposed them for each film. LOL.

Yeah the love bots were really cracking me up. Something that WOTR was lacking... some comedy relief. WOTR took itself WAY too seriously. Especially Sabato's character... who reminded me of an Italian Charlton Heston.

Well, I suppose there was SOME comedy relief in WOTR with the "cowboy" pilot who put on boots when he was in charge of the ship, but at least half of the comedy was completely unintentional since it had it's roots in the guys terrible... well everything. Acting, hair, face... acting... it was so bad. And the voice over dub was equally awful. Pure gold. LOL

I had been mentioning to the others that I wanted to reconvene in the RD Public Theater and rewatch WOTR, which I think some have agreed is a good idea. When we set a date, you should definitely hit up the site and register, so you can watch it (again) with us. I get the feeling you'd appreciate it's awfulness. ;) Plus you can chat about how awful it is, which makes it much better. LOL

Fear not GV, I'm still around.

You are correct, the only thing that ties all three Al Bradley films together are the awful production values. At least Al, Alfonso Brescia, got full use of the sets and costumes.

One thing that I look for in a movie, good or bad, is the villain. Even the worst of films can have an interesting villain. And of the three Al Bradley masterworks I've grown fond of Star Odyssey because of Kress and his cyborg army.

Kress just cracks me up. Love the scene where Earth defenses fire at Kress and his gang. He responds by ordering an attack on Earth. The scene shifts to old black & white World War 2 footage from the Battle for Cassino! Nicely done!

Then there's that awesome scene where Kress calls for back-up from his head of command on the home world. Kress needs help to pick up all the slaves he doesn't have room for on his ship. Fearless Leader gives one of the greatest eye rolls ever caught on film, LMFAO!

("flying saucers, everybody wants more flying saucers - what am I, made of flying saucers?")

And that ending, love the intergalactic auction scene. Looks like Ringling Bros. circus coming to town.

Thanks for the heads up on RetroDaze - I haven't forgotten. Looking forward to the show GV!

I honestly could not figure out why the black and white footage of the bombings showed up. I thought MAYBE it was meant to insinuate that it was part of the movie, but it is so out of place that to believe it was simply a bit of another film that accidentally got recorded over Star Odyssey by some hapless teenager seemed equally plausible.

Looks as though we are going to try and shoot for this Saturday at around 8:00 to 8:30 PM EST in the RD Theater. If you're not busy, stop in between those times (need to be registered)(the Theater locks down after the movie starts, because if anyone enters AFTER it has started, they are not in sync with the rest of us (just a problem that comes with having the whole thing duct taped together with massive amounts of javascript, lol). Hope you can make it. :)
