Have you ever been to a funeral?
What was the first one you've been to?

Tonight, my mum & dad are going to a funeral of my mother's father.
Another end of a family era for me!

The only funeral that I recall going to was the one for my aunt, who died 10 years ago. It was a sad day indeed.

My first when our next door neighbor's husband died of liver cancer back in 1987.
The second was in 1999 when my grandfather died. I was one of the pallbearer for that one. It was a large funeral with the police escort and everything.
The third was in 2008 when my grandmother died. That one was a small outdoor service and the type she wanted.
I didn't cry at any of them.

What a depressing topic. I'm sorry to hear of everyone's losses.

My uncle died about five years ago. It was especially heartbreaking near the very end of his service when everybody walked by the casket to pay their final respects. It was an open-casket funeral and my baby sister, who was only about a year old at the time, leaned over the edge as I carried her by and started shrieking at my dead uncle to wake up. My aunt completely broke down at that, and she had managed to hold it together through the whole thing up until that point. It was really awful.

I went to my friends mothers funeral a few years ago. I remember being schoked that they were serving food there, I never imagined a funeral to be an event where one eats sandwiches and filled rolls

I've been to three. One granny and two grampies.

I probably also went to my great grandma's, but I don't remember that.

They refused to play Taps at one of my grandpa's funerals even though he wanted it, so they just played a recording instead. Kinda lame since I'm pretty sure he was in the military... but I always thought that was limited to soldiers who died in battle anyway.

Oddly I had never been to one until about 2 years ago and have been to about 4 since.

                          Terrible. This is depressing.

Wow... I am shocked to see that people have been to so few funerals. I've been to 3 of my grandparents' funerals, a great grandmother's, a few great aunts and uncles', quite a few fellow church members', wife's grandmother's, my uncle's, and parents' friends' funerals.

                              Once.

I'm not sure if this was a funeral, but one of the students at my elementary school died in a soccer field. I remember one girl in my grade 4 class started crying her eyes out. I didn't know this kid. Plus, I didn't even know what was going on then :? I don't remember much really.

I went to 2 funerals I can recall. The first was for an older relative and the second was for my father. When my Mom died last year, we held a wake. She didn't want to buried, but she wanted to be cremated. We did that, and we're planning on putting some of her ashes on my dad's grave.
