I'm thinking it's gonna be like compareing the movie "The Cat in the Hat" the movie, to the books :?

But it's Tim Burton so it'll be interesting to watch, whether it's like the first one or not.

personally I think that Johnny Depp couldn't hold a candle to Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. Then again that was then and this is now...so we'll see

I think of them as two seperate movies, I mean they have the same plot and premise, but such a time gap between the tow. And the script will be butchered and redone. Personally I like both Gene Wilder and Johnny Dep, but again they are both very different.

I just plan on watching it and enjoying it for what it is and not comparing it to the original. I like Burton and think Depp is a hell of an actor, so I think I'll dig it.

Agreed, I'd much rather try to enjoy it than complain about how it's not as good as the original.

It's like hearing the story again but told by a different person, it shouldn't have to be just like the original, it's a new rendition.

The remake is gonna be a big deal but I thought the original was a classic and the techonology and everything seemed way before its time. I dunno, somehow Johnny Depp doesnt seem to have the Willy Wonka "essense" and craziness from what I'm seeing in commercials. He just looks weird with those big white horseteeth. But I'm gonna check this movie out thats for sure.

Yeah now that I hink about I agree. I am going to see the movie and rather then try to find flaws and how it compares to the original I will enjoy it and see how another person perceives the entire willy wonka premise. But I do wonder what the new oompa-loompas will look like.

This is not really a remake of the original film as "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory" as it was only loosely based on the book but the new one "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" has a more dark feel to it and it more based on the book that the original. I don't think its fair to compare the two because of this.

I think that "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory" seemed as if it was more of a parody of the book by Roald Dahl I am not saying it was a bad film I loved it but I think the new version will be just as good and will be more closely based on the book.

Yeah, I really don't think the two will be comparable. I loved Willy Wonka and with the pairing of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton I am positive I will love Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Johnny Depp is so good at playing dark characters and from what I've seen from previews he is the perfect choice for willy Wonka.

Does anyone remember in the 90's when Marilyn Manson made the video for Dope hat and based it off of the boat ride from Willy Wonka? That was back when Mtv played music videos at night for 2 hours out of the 24 it was on. Now it's 24 hrs of Spring Break, plastic Surgery and pimped rides.

I was worried when I first saw the trailers on TV, but with the crew that is making it I have hopes that it will be good. From the full trailer it looks like the story goes further than the original, since it shows Wonka in the Bucket household (I thought it was kind of funny in a strange way; when the lady says Wonka smells like candy, and he says their house smells like old people).

The weird thing about the movie is that only one person is playing all of the Oompa-Loompas, and his name is Deep Roy.

I don't think it will be as good as the first, Depp is a good actor but he doesn't seem to fit the same way Gene did. I am still interested in seeing it. I am ready to be disapointed in comparing so I am going to see it with out comparing it as much.

I saw the new version a couple weeks ago while Johnny Depp, the boy who played Charlie, and Christopher Lee are really good actors.

The new version was ok but it wasn't all that and more.

I just bought Charlie and the chocolate factory. I personally like it. Johnny Depp sounds like Jack Mcfarland in a weird way.

I liked the new one better. I dunno, it wasn't as creepy. Plus I don't remember the old one quite as well. And it was JOHNNY DEPP. You can't go wrong with Depp 8)

Funny, the new oompa loompas are freaking me out too.

Anyways, I agree that the two movies are just too differant to compare them so I think of them as two seperate movies too.

Hmm, a freakish, extremely pale, Michael Jackson-like Wonka in a factory full of little boys. Nope, that doesn't sound conspicuous. Nope, not at all.

                                      I'm being sarcastic, of course.

Just saw the new one over the weekend.

I really didn't like the new one. Tim Burton + Johnny Depp = magic, but not here. I expected from that line-up that Burton wanted to make Wonka a more sinister character with a past, but he was just a bumbling idiot. The rest of the cast was great- liked the new kids and parents. I only disliked Wonka. Definitely not Depp's strongest role, but once again, very different from other roles (how does he keep playing the same weird, loner character so many different ways?!)

Hated the oompa loompa(s)! And the new songs! The movie might have been better if not for those two things.

Doesn't hold a candle to the original.
