I tried to like G4, I really did.
But after about a week, I came to one realization. Their target audience seems to be pot smoking teenagers, and their reviews suck. I mean, they show off a game. It looks like they just read the back of the box and threw in some video clips to go along with it. I mean, they tell me NOTHING about a game that you wouldn't get off of the official advertisements.
Totally agree.
I can make two comparisons with G4:
First, Sportscenter. Sportscenter used to be the mecca for sports highlights. For me it was, anyway. It's really gone downhill though. It's funny and entertaining, but it's not the sports I want. A lot of times you'll see like two highlights of a game, and then they'll throw in a fan catching a ball in his cup of beer or something. Give me sports... not drama. They have Terrell Owens coverage way too frequently, etc... they didn't stay true to their target audience (the hardcore sports fans). Instead, I think they now target college-aged run-of-the-mill fans... and it sucks.
X-Play is kind of like Sportscenter. It used to be good, but now it seems so watered down. Much like sports highlights, their reviews suck. They're so short and they don't tell you anything. Their 'reviews' consist of practically nothing but jokes. Sure, it's entertaining, but what if you want to know about the games?
The network itself is basically Spike: redux. Now they're just trying to be the network for guys. It's pretty sad that they have some of the shows they do... it's almost embarrassing.
