The world of cinema has died, so this is no surprise to me.

Alas. So die practical FX replaced by crappy CGI. So die dozens of cinematic techniques. So dies human intelect just a little more.

*shrug* I'm surprised it took -this- long for cinema to switch over to video. 24FPS just doesn't cut it anymore.
You don't see anyone bemoaning the fact that they no longer make those oldass cameras where you had to sit still for 15 minutes just to get 1 photo, or the cars that you had to crank by hand to start up, or those old-timey hand drills (those S-shaped ones that you put one palm on top & crank away with the other), etc, etc.

At least we have digital reels now. That is, in the form of small memory-card chips and other things like that.

Some movies will still be filmed with film. I know the 2009 Star Trek movie was done with film and the director said he's going to keep using it for the rest of the star trek movies he makes.

Museums and reperatory houses are also using 16mm and 35mm analog celluloid prints like what just now became obsolete.

Just because they've stopped making them, doesn't mean they will cease to be used. The quality we get from using film is wonderful, but digital has advanced so quickly that almost anything (in terms of filters, editing effects, color correcting)can be convincingly rendered on a computer.

Not ALL Movies will be using new technology.

But alas...the films we watch today basically died in 2005 with all those damn remakes.

Fear the person sitting behind the camera and his minions. Not to much the new technology.
