    Gamepro was a fun magazine to read. I can't believe it's finally gone.

        I stopped getting or reading gaming mags once the wave of disc based systems hit (ie, ps1, saturn, n64 (yes, not a disc system, but not much better IMO), etc). There was no point reading about games & systems that I would never want. (Disc systemshave retarded load times & fill the game with cut scenes instead of content, and all 3 systems of that era had low grade 3d graphics that looked like a throwback to the 2600, plus it seemed like every friggin came they came out with for any of those systems was another damned FPS one.)

        I wonder how this will affect gamepro's other sites? (Apparently they have one for game downloads, and a rather generic games site, and some other ones).

          I didn't realize it was still around either. I was recently packing up stuff from my old room at my parent's house (they sold the house) and found a whole stack of old GamePro and EGM mags.

          As much as I love the internet and wouldn't want to live without it now, there was something oddly special about the days when ANY AND ALL information wasn't just a couple clicks away. Finding those old magazines brought back a rush of memories. I can still remember being SO excited when I got the issue with all the Mortal Kombat II moves and secrets. Haha, good times.

            I don't remember if I ever read this magazine. It looked amazing though.

                I never subscribed to GamePro...but I used to buy their magazines from the stands during the SNES/Genesis days. Makes me wonder when other gaming mags like EGM and Nintendo Power are going to go under?

                  We used to call them lamepro. I also liked EGM better.

                  I still have my SF2 stratagy guide from Gamepro.

                    I have 2 or 3 issues of gamepro that I got around the end of the 16 bit era (I remember one has a "preview" of the 32x). Prior to that I only had nintendo consoles, so there was no point getting any mags other than nintendo power.

                      I just dug out my gamepro mags, I had more than I thought. Four normal issues, plus one swatpro;

                      august 1994
                      december 1996
                      swatpro: july 1994

                      I think the reason I have the 3 from '94 is that I sent in a subscription card, but never paid for it, so they only sent me a few issues before they realized.
                      These mags are pretty beat up & grungy now. Seems weird as hell to see systems like "genesis, snes, duo, neo-geo, game boy, game gear, lynx, 3do, cd-i, and jaguar" on the covers of mags.

                        I think it went under because you can find all that information online now. But still...it was good to know that it was there, even if I didn't read it. With everything from my childhood being radically changed or going away completely, I hope that Nintendo Power sticks around.

                          Hmm, kinda figured they'd kick the bucket eventually, but I was expecting them to last at least 1 more year.

                            I think the future of magazines in general is doomed. Then again as long as there is waiting rooms, they'll have business.

                                IMO, magazines have always sucked, even before the web. Aside from highlights magazine when I was 5, I have never been able to find a decent magazine.
