If todays shows are really that much lamer, or if we just have a special bond with the older ones because its what we grew up with?

I personally think ours were much better. They were much more interesting and comical.
Could I be read if I were see-through or would you just read my spine?

I think it's a mixture of both but more that we have a special bond with them. Although, some shows these days really do suck.

I too think that the older shows were simply so much better than the new ones. And of course, there is a certain kind of bond to those classic shows...

          old school shows>modern shows

today's shows are mostly carbon copies of each other anyways.

I think it just has to do with time. I watched an episode of NightRider the other day and thought that it was absolutely boring, but when I was a kid I loved it.

I think of cartoons like gummi bears and ducktales and nothing comes close to those IMHO. Most cartoons nowadays seem more cynical with an almost sarcastic twist to them.

But at the same time, there were some shows I remembered and rewatched and thought them mediocre as well.

I think people took animation more seriously Back Then... gave it more money and better people to make it.

Nowadays it seems to be a throwaway market. Disposable cartoons.

I wonder the same thing. I wonder if the kids of today are gonna look back on the cartoons they are growing up with and feel about them the way we do about the cartoons we grew up with and if they are gonna think that most of the cartoons they are playing when they are adults are crap.

Back in the 80's & 90's syndication of the 80's shows... I thought they rocked.

                      Perfect Strangers
                      Charles in Charge

All family-like shows that were good for their time... but now it seems when they're on, I wonder how anyone could have liked something like that! To think that not only were they hits, but they lasted many seasons! Each somehow ended up with a happy ending, sometimes with the little violin music as they learn their weekly lesson.

Then along came Roseanne and it changed the whole concept of family sit-com introducing a mainstream dysfunctional family with the mother b!tching at the kids & such, and TV changed forever since then to those types of comedies.

Then the reality TV buzz came along, and it seems everyone has one.
Then comes the laugh-trackless sit-coms, which seem to work quite well.

Will these have more staying power? Certainly not reality TV shows... but 80's sit-coms will go down in pop-culture history because it was such a big thing then, that they will live forever in TV-Land.

I think today's writers have so little imagination and resort to crude humor to create fresh comedy. Why do we need 3-4 versions of CSI, 2 different wife swap shows, various makeover shows, and several hospital shows? Any show that's remotely decent ends up getting cancelled i.e. Arrested Development and Freaks & Geeks.

Another thing that's really stupid is making movie versions of tv shows from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Do we really need a movie version of CHIPS and Magnum PI ? What will be next? Facts of Life or Moonlighting?
