For everyone who's watched this video, I'm trying to figure out who the Red Hot Chili Peppers are mimicing throughout the video. I caught Elvis, the Beatles, I think David Bowie at one point, the Misfits and Nirvana but who are the rest. The last one is really bugin' me, the one where Anthony Keidis is whereing the black shirt and tie and is skipping back and forth across the stage. My GirlFriend says its "Faith No More" but I'm not sure. Check it out right here:

Yeah, This has been bothering me as well....

    I think its:

    1) Elvis Prestly for the 50's

    2) The Beatles for the 60's

    3) Some funk band for the 70's? (Not much of a music geek, Sorry.)

    4) The Misfits for the 80's

    5) Nirvana for the 90's

    6) I thought it was supposed to be themselves or something for the 00's. Shows what I know, lol.

Maybe Poision or New York Dolls for the other 80's one? I have no idea, Totally uneducated guesses on my part :?

Yep, '50s is Elvis and '60s has The Beatles. Not sure if the latter '60s look is a take on Hendrix or Jefferson Airplane/Starship (i'm inclined to think Hendrix).

I recognize the '70s funk and glam looks, but I can't place who they're ripping off in those. Bowie didn't start donning suits until the '80s, so I don't think that's him. The funk look might be Sly and the Family Stone.

'80s looks like The Sex Pistols, Poison and The Misfits.

'90s would certainly be Nirvana and Faith No More. The giveaway on Faith No More is the way that Keidis is bouncing around the stage in longsleeves and shorts like FNM frontman Mike Patton.

Flea has said they are doing genres, not the artists themselves. So some of them aren't exactly who they are impersonating.

But it looks like for funk they're doing the Parliament/Funkadelic. And the glam looks like the New York Dolls to me.

Not sure if the latter '60s look is a take on Hendrix or Jefferson Airplane/Starship (i'm inclined to think Hendrix).

Someone somewhere else said it's Hendrix with Cream.

No. The last band is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The giveaway being the giant Red Hot Chili Peppers logo behind them.

I was thinking Hendrix, but there's a Starship/Airplane (whatever the hell they were called then) video that looks very similar.

Didn't notice the RHCP logo, but it still looks very Mike Patton-ish to me.

            This topic looks familiar Matt.

The 70's where Anthony is wearing the Uncle Same suit is definately David Bowie. One of the members is wearing the Ziggy Stardust makeup and his blonde mullet. Kind of a combo.

Still debating if the glam hair band was spoofing Poison or Motley...

and the goth metal band could be anyone. Though with his muscles and posture he looks somewhat like Till Lindemann... though absolutely noone else resembles Rammstein

Anthony Kiedis HATES Mike Patton. They have a feud that has gone on since 1989. It got worse after this Mr. Bungle show from the California tour in 1999:

I'm pretty sure one of the '70s ones is a nod to Parliament-Funkadelic, given the resemblance Flea has to Bootsy Collins in that scene. Plus, P-Funk is the only band I can name that had a mothership descend on stage. I think the other '70s one-- the one where Kiedis wears a top hat-- may be a nod to Alice Cooper as well as David Bowie.

Definitely not, considering the Red Hot Chili Peppers were MUCH more popular and successful during the Early 90's. They are in no way an 00's group. They have been around since the Mid 80's

^I don't like them much in the 00's, but it's supposed to be them.

Aww Video Jukebox you stole my post so Ill reiterate what you said heh

Ya the 70s funk shot is definately Parliament and what gives it away is the space ship because thats the Mutha Ship "gettin down in 3-D, light year groovin" =P Though I did think Clinton could have been more recognizable.

Also looked like Boy George was in that for a few shots but I could be completely wrong.

Meh Chilli Peppers are okay I guess.. bubble gum pop im my opinion. There are a ton (and for Daniel85 and friends heaps) more groups that write and play sooo much better than the radio stars out there that get no air time (and massively budgeted videos). Oh oops wrong thread; this should go in the What Pisses You Off The Most Thread =P

I like the Chili Peppers (despite being on Mike Patton's side) and some of their newer stuff, but yeah, he is a bitch. It all stems back to him thinking that Patton ripped off his style in the Epic video, even though he said that The Real Thing was a good album. I don't think he has any clue how different FNM and Patton became following that album or even bothered checking. Then Mr. Bungle got kicked off of some European festivals in 1999 because the headliner had the final say on who played with them, and it was you know who.

Stadium Arcadium is probably only half-good. I like the first half of the first disc very much (Snow should be a Chilis classic, and Hump De Bump and Charlie are pretty great. Hump De Bump has some cool trumpet and a percussion breakdown which is awesome. Dani California grew on me even though I thought it was stupid. The title track is too by the numbers, though.) and the the second disc is decent. The first disc loses steam by Strip My Mind, if you ask me.

They really lost the explosiveness, though, when they decided to mature. There's nothing wrong with them trying to mature, but you don't have to become soft. I don't have a problem with them being less explicit, it's not really about that. I think Californication was a great album, but it definitely foreshadowed them becoming softer. It was the last album of theirs that I bought. Ah, but their concert that I saw with the Foo Fighters on that tour was pretty great. Haven't seen them since, though. I'll leave that to my sister. She has By The Way and Stadium Arcadium, that's her Chili Peppers. They don't play any 80's stuff live anymore, so who cares?

I think Keidis is just jealous that his old rival, who chooses not to be a radio sellout, is actually a better artist, who after all these years, continues to explore new areas of creativity and new boundry for his work, while all of the RHCP stuff just sounds the same.
