I know this is a bit old, but it made headlines where I live and there's no posts about it.

Who's offended? Is there even anyone around anymore from when it actually happened? You'd have to be like 90 just to have been a baby at that time.

Last one died in 2009. She was a baby when it happened.

        Never heard of it before.
        I think it's rather funny.
A lot of people do tend to get way too uptight any time there was some big disaster involved. Essentially, it'll never be "ok" to make even the slightest joke about the titanic.

The truly funny thing about this is that it can never truly sink. It'll stay down as long as you hold it down, then pop back up to the surface. Even when you drain the tub the plug will still outlast the water.

I guess the real joke here is that they made a toy that's better quality than a world-famous ship. ;)

Doesn't make sense that this is offensive as the event happened 100yrs ago! How bad could it be that the decendents of the survivors actually sailed in a direct course on another ship as a tribute? I guess you can compare it to the decendents of the 9/11 victims taking a flight from NYC to the year 2101. It's a tragic event in our mindset now but in 90yrs, it will just be a mark in history as nobody from the original even will be around to remember.

There should be some sort of a statute of limitations when it comes to making fun of a tragedy, but the severity of the tragedy will probably always play a part. If it's alright to joke about the deaths aboard the Titanic 100 years after it sank, would it be okay to joke about the holocaust after 100 years?
