Ok as per all the movies and the new cartoon and even the original comic

Splinter was the pet rat of a ninja named Hamato Yoshi. Splinter was able to learn his master's art by mimicking his movements while he practiced.

The Splinter form the 1987 TMNT cartoon and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures comics , Splinter is HamatoYoshi himself.

Personnally I prefer when Splinter is Hamato Yoshi himself. It makes for a better rivalry with Shredder. Also it makes him a real ninjutsu master. And it also give the Caracther a better backgorund.

No matther what they do to him in the futur (movie,Commics or TV) I will always belive that Splinter is Hamato Yoshi miself. And when ever he is cast as a pet rat I will just say to myself the cartoon or movie writers must have made a mistake.

I agree, the pet rat learning from his master is more kiddie like...
Hamato becoming the rat itself is much better.

Cos a story about a bowl of pet store turtles being mutated into anthropomorphic creatures is so sophisticated and mature, right? :P

I don't really care about the Splinter thing. Yeah, the rat mimicking his owner's moves is kinda stupid, but so is the entire concept.

On the other hand, I do like the dimension that's added to the story when the Turtles feel obligated to return their master to human form, though. That's a surprisingly well-developed idea in the otherwise silly cartoon.

The original cartoon made more sense for having Splinter be Yoshi. A rat being able to mimick ninja moves was weird to see. It's just a better explanation with their transformations.

I agree. The whole "rat studying his master's moves from his cage and becoming a ninja master himself" was pretty silly.

Yeah, I have to go with everyone else and say that the idea of him being Hamato Yoshi is a lot better. Like its been said, it just makes the rivalry with Shredder and the show in general much better.

              True, all true.

With Splinter being able to actually fight Shredder makes for a better series. Well when he does a good job fighting that is, like that time he went to the Technodrone to get the Mutagen Gun there from Shredder so he could turn them back and kinda screwed up and Shredder got away.

See I like when a rat can fight, not sit in a cage and mimic his masters moves.

That was made up for the cartoon, in the comics he was Yoshi, which is why he was Yoshi in the movie

It's the other way around actually. In the movies and the original comic...he was a rat to begin with, and in the cartoon he was Yoshi.

Yeah, I can see Splinter as a big green dinosaur that mario rides
