this is a thred to post what kind of town/city you grownup in and your idea of the best kind of town/city you think is the best to have lived in.

i grown up in a very flat city that was 70% steel and cement. even the school play ground was mostly backtop with nothing but afew benches and a small sandbox and 2 basketball hoops. the uglyest part of town was the steel mill makeing the water and air pretty dirty

so my idea of the best place to have lived was a small town with lots of trees wildlife and hills with clean air grass fields ponds or lakes clean enough to swim in without haveing to take a bath right after geting out of

i say anywhere out in the country, with open fields and farms with apple trees and barries is a good place to grow up. I however grew up in a suburban neighbourhood which was great dont get me wrong but ive always longed to live in the countryside, lol.

i grew up in a suburban neighborhood, and IMO it is the best place to grow up. i had a nice sized yard to play in, plenty of friends that lived right in my neighborhood that lived clos enough for me to walk to. plus, growing up in the suburbs meant that there were always enough malls, toy stores and department stores to satisfy my hunger for toys.

I grew up in a Chicago suburb, Joliet. It's a great place to grow up in, as it is near the country but is also near the city, so there is a lot of variety of things to do around Joliet. There's the woods and I&M canal place down south, and there's so much cultural things to do in Chicago.

The ideal place to grow up in is in a small town near a large city. That way, you can experience the city whenever you feel like it, but also experience the hometown feeling of antiquity of older times with nature and mom and pop stores.

My living situation is like that now. It's a quiet town, with a few major places like Wal Mart and Jewel, but nothing much. I'm an hour away from the city. Everyone is really polite, and there are always kids playing outside....It's nice. :)

I perfer city life there's all kinds of fun things to do as a kid. Like when I was a kid me and my friends used to throw snow at busses, climb over the school yard fence and play baseball, and once this drunk guy who came out of a bar bought all the kids stuff from the store including something for me.

i grew up just north of Indianapolis in this suburb/cult (not really tho). It's all neighborhoods and stores. They're going for the 1950's look where you can walk to all the stores outside and they have apartment buildings above them. I loved growing up where i did. I went to a blue ribbon school and was twenty minutes away from downtown Indy. There was a woods behind my house and me and my two best friends growing up made a secret hide out there. Every once in awhile we'll still go, if all three of us happen to be visiting home at the same time. There were plenty of neighborhood kids to play with and we all had big yards to run through and we all had different play sets. Every once in awhile someone's dog would get loose and we would all try to catch it. I love my hometown, even though i hated it growing up cuz there was "nothing" to do.

When I was in primary school, I lived in an aprtment in a suburb of sydney called penshurst. There are a lot of flats/units in this suburb. I always wanted a backyard when I was young. When I was at the end of primary school we moved to a different suburb, into a house. I still live there now.

I would say that a small type of town, with good values would be a great place to grow up in. Living in a house with a large yard. But still have it not been to far away from a bigger town, so that you would have access to major shops.

I loved growing up in Queens, NY. I think it's the best :) It's got everything. Plus it is full of diversity. Everyone is different, so you don't really feel like the oddball.

Ive always lived in a suburban town almost my whole life, pretty calm, somewhat crowded - you feel safe living there. Alas, it might not be for long, theyre building a freeway opening in June - right behind my back yard!!!

I was born in and grew up for the first 6 years of my life in Norfolk, VA. My dad was military so we moved other places as well, but I've always considered Norfolk my real hometown.

Norfolk is of course a HUGE Navy town, with a heavy maritime influence. Norfolk has statues of mermaids all over the town as its logo if that tells you something! LOL.

Hampton Roads has terrific beaches (I rarely went though), beautiful homes, very safe (at least when I lived there), zero pollution (unlike my current location), and absolutely incredible weather. Seriously, it barely snows down there, it's always very warm and temperate. The only drawback is that in the summertime, it gets pretty muggy. But since I grew up in Virginia, I'm quite used to and actually prefer hot weather.

Norfolk and the rest of Hampton Roads is a very family-friendly, peaceful community to live in my opinion. Some of their local attractions is the Norfolk Scope: http://www.norfolkscope.com/ which is an enormous events center and which also hosts the circus when it comes to town, Chrysler Hall, a performing arts center: http://media.ebsmartsite.com/3714_chryhall_pic.jpg Harrison Opera House: http://www.norfolk.gov/Parking/Lot_Harrison_Opera_House.asp and a restaurant which has become a local landmark in the area called Doumar's. It was started by a couple of Syrian immigrants about 70+ years ago, and has become the best barbeque and burgers in Norfolk!
http://www.doumars.com/ Here's more about Norfolk--the Wards Corner area discussed on the website is exactly where I grew up! http://www.rkpuma.com/ov/nickel20.htm I think a place like my hometown is the perfect place for people to grow up in. It's beautiful, safe, and has really friendly people.

Mine was great. North about 25 miles from NYC, and yet lovey and wild. So I had both types of wild to experience. BUT if I had a choice it would be on the ocean...almost anywhere..is there anything better than the ocean?
