Finally was made to sit down and watch an episode of the American version of this for the first time last night.

Have to say - I didn't even laugh once - thought the storyline/plot was poor and full of holes - and the characters to be extremely lacking in quality and one dimensional - thereby people billing it as a "comedy" either haven't seen an example of the genre or are as knowledgable as Ricky Gervais himself.

It go so bad that I had to watch 4 episodes of Father Ted and two whole series of Blackadder just to strike that abomination from my memory.

Of course I found the UK version even less funnier - just a one trick pony (Gervais is not even funny in the standup he does, I found Jimmy Carr funnier)

And I thought Steve Carrell could do better than that - quite disappointed in him...

The U.K. version is pretty good but is nothing compared to The Larry Sanders Show which is pretty much the same but way better and ahead of it's time. Hey now!!!

so.... it's not funny, and the original isn't that great either. i don't understand why people find him funny. did anyone see him stalling for time in the princess Di memorial concert? cringe worthy

The English version is superior to the American one. American audiences are sheltered from the original, even though Extras is on HBO, yet underappreciated.
