The article is hinting at lots of underground ice, because they say it couldn't have evaporated. I bet all the water just got covered up in that FeO3 dust like a cold, rusty desert. So maybe we could figure out a way to pump out lots of greenhouse gases into Mars' atmosphere and melt that stuff. Then innoculate it with some carefully chosen living things, then Whamo, 500 million years later, we'll have a second earth! Its almost too easy!
