Don Herbert, better known to his fans as Mr. Wizard, died Tuesday, June 12, 2007 from multiple myeloma, at the age of 89.
*has more than one tear running down his cheek right now*
You know, right now I'm so happy that I got to do what few people seem to be able to do.
Last year I stumbled upon Mr. Wizard's email address (and I posted it here on the boards). I sent him an email, I told him how much I owed him for the differance he made in my life. Watching Mr. Wizard's World on the early days of Nickelodeon was one of the major things that influenced my love of science. He showed me that the world was a marvelous, mysterious place full of impossible feats that could be made possible simply by learning.
Honestly, I don't think I would be the same person I am today if not for him, and I'm just thankful that I got the chance to tell him that before it was too late.
Rest well Don, you did what so few people can claim. You made a differance for the better, and the world is truely a better place for you having been in it.
Now, if everyone will excuse me, I'm going to go find some baking soda and vinegar, and give Don a suitable send-off. I think I even have the red food coloring. This one is for you Don...
