Any Daily Show voters for Jon Stewart around here?
How about The Colbert Report?

Well I'm gonna cast my ballot for Jimmy Kimmel Live! His show is just firing on all cylinders for Campaign 2012. And here is a last minute appeal for the president:

... And I approve this message...

The Eldorado is dead. Long live the Eldorado.

Yes, I thought about posting this in the "Who Are You Voting For?" thread but that's too serious and I wanted to share a laugh with everyone on the last day for those awful Campaign 2012 ads.

And remember, think right and vote twice. That's Chicago style, lol.

I tried explaining to my students that you can write in your own vote and they couldn't wrap their minds around it. LOL. "So... you could vote for Justin Bieber?"

Look at the popular vote this election and you will see that Romney lost more votes to "other" candidates than Obama. Many believe that Ross Perot caused Clinton to win in both 1992 and in 1996.It was probably for the better, but.... http://clinton.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=004025

In general independent candidates tend to be more in line with the Republican Party than the Democratic. One exception was Ralph Nader in 2000 who probably cost Gore the election. The Libertarian Party sides with the Democrats on issues like abortion, drug legalization and gay marriage, but are against most government programs. Most Democrats will not support them for these reasons alone. There is this push for a "third party", but the truth of the matter is they will never win and will continue to get the Democrats re-elected. The Republicans need to get on the side of the Libertarian and other candidate voters and stop catering to the far right. They also need to stay true to their roots and stop supporting wasteful social programs like Bush did.

I know many will disagree with me, but I really think there should only be two candidates on the final ballot without the option for a write in. Maybe there could be some changes to the process to give others a chance to run such as a pre-election to eliminate the other candidates. Imagine an election without a Democrat or a Republican to choose from Libertarian vs Republican or Libertarian vs Green Party (no democrat or republican). I know either of these will happen in our lifetime, but for now just remember that a 3rd party vote is almost always a vote for the Democrats.

BTW I would vote for Jimmy :)

lolwhut? That was true this election just because the Repubs are so fractured. From respectful, decent people like McCain to insane nutbags like Cain, the Republicans are in a big mess because the extreme side is trying to pull everything apart. This is why there are right wing third parties, not the other way around.

Third parties represent dissatisfaction with the status quo. They are usually at the far ends of the spectrum because the Rs and Ds are close to the middle, nobody who wants their party to compromise is left wanting (generally). It happens when people think things are too far away from their ideals on their side of the spectrum. You may look at Perot and Johnson as the norm and call Nader the exception but third parties are definitely present on both sides. Look how many leftist candidates there have been!

Anyway, here is some disagreement as you expect. I think more parties would help. Of course, not with things as they are and third party can never ever win, but in fantasyland, if they were a real, viable option. Now we have only two real parties so they attack each other relentlessly. Having more parties might force energies to focus on getting things done instead of influencing perception.
