              I think it sucks!!
It's just, "CHOCOLATE RAIN (insert verse here)
              CHOCOLATE RAIN (insert verse here)
              *repeat for five minutes*"
Pure crap, and his voice really isn't that great either. Just because somebody has a deep voice, doesn't mean it's a great voice.
And what the f*ck is chocolate rain anyway.

His voice is amusing, it doesnt suit his body
The verses are amusing as they sound profound but have no relation to each other
The greatest mystery of all is, what is chocolate rain

There is nothing bad about this song

How about the song structure? There is no chorus, no bridges, no catchy keybord solo and it's redundant. No surprises, just the same thing over and over again. In fact the only surprise is how much everbody likes it. As for the lyrics, I don't know, the song's too boring for me to pay attention to them.
But what, indeed, is Chocolate Rain?

shouldnt the fact it doesnt conform to the societal norms of modern pop music mean that it becomes an amazing stand alone piece of contempory art, to give such critique with such a narrow frame of reference only confirms to me that this song, as glorious as it is, is simply genius, and only the small minded chav would disagree

                    many thanks x

Part of the reason I like it is I enjoy outsider music (Daniel Johnston, Wesley Willis, Wildman Fischer ect.)

I could care less about songs not following conventions, I grew up on Yes who on most of their 70's stuff threw out the rule book when it came to song structure.

Holy crap, someone else remembers Wildman Fischer. "I wrote the Taster when I was fourteen. I thought I was sixteen. I forgot, I wrote it when I was fourteen, because I FINALLY remember when I wrote it! My mother never liked me to sing in my bedroom, but I'd always get into my bedroom and sing, I used to sell PAPERS! You know, I used to sell papers . . . GNNK! 'Scuse me. Like to buy a Herald Express, y'know, used to sell the Herald Express and Mirror News, I'm sure some of you people remember the Mirror News! And, uh, I used to sell papers. . . "

As for "Chocolate Rain," I can't make up my mind about it. It's either well and truly awful, or completely and utterly brilliant. I'll have to listen to it a few more times before I make up my mind.
"Preserving the old ways from being abused,
Protecting the new ways for me and for you.
                          What more can we do?"

I have to agree with Matt. The song doesn't break any boundaries. It's a piss poor song, if you can even call it that with absolutely no effort put into it musically. The only credit I can give the guy is how many ways he finds to rhyme the word 'rain'.

and that is the beauty, I love the fact it doesnt change, the guy is stupidly brave for making this song.

That's not bravery, that's having to much time on your hands, which is usually a result of not being brave. Besides, his "Demon on the Dance Floor" song is way catchier than "Chocolate Rain", even though it, too, becomes a bit redundant.

The sound on my computer is somewhat fucked up right now, so does this song have anything to do with Prince's "Purple Rain"?

                                    I'm more of an "I'm A Marvel And I'm A D.C" person, anyway.

I have that on a Waner Bros. vinyl double sampler album. The original album it's from, the Frank Zappa produced An Evening with Wildman Fischer, released on Zappa's Bizzare label in 1969 and is pretty rare now.

Wildman Fischer's other three albums are now avaliable on cd, Fischer's last two albums, both from the early 80's were colaborations with Barnes and Barnes of "Fish Heads" fame and are full of refrences to Fischer's first album and early 80's production artifacts.

I hadn't heard of Chocolate Rain until this thread was made, then I found that I liked it. I thought he could do "Never Gonna Give You Up" almost like Rick

                                        Guess I was wrong :(
