I oftentimes hear complaints on here about how "Family Guy" can't be considered retro. I think I know why the complainers think the way they do.

During the show's first run from 1999 to 2002, it flew under the radar. Not that many people were aware of it outside of hardcore animation fans. When the show became popular in reruns, that's when more people started to notice it, fans and detractors alike, and since the popularity occurred in this decade, not many people remember the show's first run.

I concur, 95 is not even retro, hell to be fair even 92 really is not either.

Retro is subjective, so if one want's to say that "1999" is retro, then so be it. No one has a right to argue against that, since, imo, anything "retro" is something that can make you nostalgic.

And for the record, I remember the original run of Family Guy...but I never watched it. I think I was watching WCW at the time when it aired. Didn't Family Guy used to come on 8:00 on Thursdays?

next, this is CHIT CHAT, the one forum where you don't have to be retro

I think you missed the point here josh, the thread is explaining why people do or do not consider family guy retro. therefore I and DYS were absolutely correct to put forward our point as to why family guy is not retro

And jup, I did end my post with "In my opinion" because thats what it is, although I do feel many share that opinion

I'm not even nostaglic for the year 1999, hell let alone the entire decade.

I'm personally tired of the what's retro and what's not debate.

When you say "first run in 92" do you mean like an airing of a pilot? Because that wouldn't count as it being on from that point to the present.

No, it first started airing in 1999. It debuted after the Super Bowl.

This article could help lend more light to the proceedings: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Family_Guy

Edit: What I meant is that there were two runs. The first one was from 1999 to 2002 and the second one is from 2005 onwards.

1999 seems a shade too recent to be retro, in my opinion. Also, it's hard for me to consider something retro when it was still in production as recently as two years ago.

                              Let me say this:

I'm not saying whether this show is or isn't retro. I'm just trying to come up with reasons as to why people think the way they do about this show.
