Think about it, you never see any of these so called "concerned parents" online. If they're so worried about what their child does, why not join myspace or talk on the forums? Speaking of forums, did you ever notice that with all of these sites that help parents with videogame ratings and online indangerment, there's never any forums or message boards? I think there's something more sinister going on than overacting parents but that's just me.

That's what I'm saying. All they really want is to screw everything for the kids and teens.

I've seen "angry soccor moms" go into forums (Usually Forums their kids have no business on in the first place) and just go off.

Like for example, on Fanfiction.net, a mother got mad because her four year old saw an NC-17 (Or "M" as they now call it) story with the word "Tampon" in the title.

Okay, first of all, the site hides the NC-17(M) stories, so the kid had to have clicked on the filter to see it. Second, why did you let your kid on the Internet unsupervised? Seriously, if you don't watch kids like hawks when they're surfing, they're bound to do "naughty" things.

...or at least explain to them why you think it's wrong. A person shouldn't have to have things kept from the just because of their age.

4 years old?! That's on the parent right there. I thought that there were blocker programs that don't let you go to sites that you do not want your kid to see.

So you think a 12 year-old should be permitted to drink and smoke as long as it's explained to them how unhealthy it is?

There is, but some sites (like Fanfiction.net) go through because they're not obviously an "adult" site.

No, and I think that it's wrong for adults to do it, too. Then again, if so many adults want to whine so much about teen smoking and drinking, they should take it away from adults, too.

You're right, it was more in relation to pornography and whatnot. Either way, parents SHOULD keep young kids AWAY from such things.

It shouldn't. Four year-olds watching bukkake videos is a utopian future.

So you're saying that it's perfectly fine for a person to watch (and do) something like that if they're over 18? You're saying that a person would automatically want to do that if he/she is under 18?

It's all about setting an example. Younger people tend to look up to older people, so if they see someone "over 18" smoking, looking at porn sites, drinking beer, ect. then the young ones are going to want to do it as well.

That might not be as much of a problem if the parents would use their "skills" to explain right from wrong instead of hiding things and waiting until the last minute to talk.

Well I cannot speak for everyone, but my sister keeps up on what her kids do. The computer is in a central location. She is up on it. I cannot speak for everyone, but for her 2 boys, she makes great choices.
