I'm not an avid anime watcher, but I'm more interested in shoujo anime because they focus more on the plot compared to most shounen anime.

Any anime that has very little comedy. I don't care for Japanese humor.

Im more of a Comedy person myself, But they have to at least have drama in it
I guess, I could go along with mystery, comedy, drama (though I prefer manga for the most part), and jousei type-series, like say "Gokusen".
Action/Adventure is nice too from an animated standpoint. I'd rather watch that, as opposed to reading it. The stuff I mentioned above (drama/jousei), I prefer reading it.

I like shounen, shoujo, magical girl, steam punk, mecha, action, comedy, adventure, romance, kaiju, samurai, gunslinger, magical boy, magical animal, talking animal, fear, suspence, drama, furry, magical furry, living mecha, ghosts, eechi, quiet shounen, quiet shoujo, fighter, super fighter, shounen fighter, shoujo fighter, alien, spirit, spirit mecha, and musical.

I like stuff with good character development: Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Macross and Gatchaman...I also liked Paranoia Agent, Lain and NieA_7. I really hate stuff with screaming like a lot of the shit has now.
The comedy in a lot of anime is awful too. I went to an anime convention a few years back where they screened Ah! My Goddess. These losers were pissing themselves laughing when the main character got a nose bleed (ie got an erection.) What is so funny about that? Nose bleeds, giant tear drops, falling over...I hate that stuff. It's only in anime - not typical of Japanese comedy at all.
It's so hard to find good anime these days. I saw Bleach when it started in Japan...I absolutely hate Bleach. Awful. The first episode put me off straight away.

I had a roomate who did nothing but smoke cigarettes and watch anime on his computer. His favorite was a suckfest called Love Hina. It was the same recycled bullshit over and over. Yet he always busted his ass, laughing. Let's see, nerdy yet sensitive guy who meets a trillion girls who all have secret crushes on him, he accidentally gropes/sees them undressing and is slapped because of it, etc... Yep, seen that tired piece of shit plot in about 400 billion other anime series. It wasn't good then, it's not good now. Even so, there's no shortage of retards who go into laughing seizures when they watch this crap.

This is the main reason why I got bored of Love Hina. All the literal Keitaro bashing, but I heard that the manga isn't as violent towards his character, only that the anime over-did it. I'll get around to reading Love Hina one of these days (Akamatsu is an interesting author, imo), since the plot overall was an interesting one and you wonder if the girl that Keitaro promised to marry was Naru or one of the other girls.
I don't remember any of the girls' names, but after seeing a few episodes it got to the point where almost every girl on the show was in love with that guy. Even his sister or step sister. I can't remember. I mean, come on...that's just ridiculous. And I know exactly why it was so popular. I just had to take a look at my socially retarded roomate...It's probably every nerd's fantasy. A geeky, unlucky dude suddenly bombarded by every girl you meet. Pure dork fantasy. I stay far away from anime like that. The few animes that I mentioned go way beyond cheap nerd fantasy, and actually tell some pretty great stories.
