Hilly Kristal, whose Bowery rock club CBGB served as the birthplace of the punk rock movement and a launching pad for bands like the Ramones, The Dead Boys and the Talking Heads, has died. He was 75.

I think this is a damn shame but so is life. He helped brith the era of true rebellion and paved the way to one of the most interesing and amazing subcultures our world has seen.

CBGB's only was closed about a year ago so I guess it makes sense he died along with the Venue.

Cheers Hilly, mosh on in whatever afterlife there may be.

Country, Blue Grass and Blues. That's what CBGB stands for.

I love it when you add these last little words of sentiment, I just have to laugh, because, come on, life is funny :D

But more to the point, life isn't a shame, DYS, life is great, and the fact that Ol' Mr. Kristal lived to the ripe old age of 75, after living the crazy life he lived, is a reason to rejoice not a reason for sorrow. 75 years old, most health nuts don't even live to that age.

when I said, so is life.. I did not mean life is a shame... I just did not word it as best as I could.... I ment so is life as so is death... it happens and we can't change it... sorry for the confusion.

75? For some reason I doubt he had anything to do with moshing.

Let's see, moshing didn't come about until the late seventies, that was about 30 years ago, he was 45ish... nah, probably not. But he probably was a smoker, a drinker and had a pretty active night life, all things not recommended by the average doctor.

                    1) dude, he didn't start anything with you in this thread (yet) (also his only post so far was quoting Matt about moshing and responding to it)

and 2) stop flamebaiting him, or the thread will end

Yeah, Nipper, I think he meant it figuratively, like with Jim Morrison, saying, "Break on through to the other side," except he's saying, "Mosh on through to the other side". See, it's figurative...

...but that brings me to a second point, if Mr.Kristal is moshing in the afterlife, is he in Heaven or Hell, 'cause when I think of moshing, I think of bands like Slayer, Ministry, Pantera, bands who were definitly pro-devil and rebellious. I don't think people moshed for Micheal W Smith or Amy Grant.
I don't know. Any body have any thoughts on this?

I think moshing would only go on in hell. You always hear the term "from the pits of Hell", never from heaven.

Moshing isn't something I'd picture a Christian doing, anyway...it doesn't really seem like the kind of behaviour you'd expect from a good Christian. It involves anger and violence, two facets of humanity that Christians are taught to limit themselves from.

STD brings up a good point, it's the "Pits of Hell". You see, Hell is the mosh pit, it's hot, chaotic and it stinks like the rotton garlic scent of BO, and there is no better representation of Satan than a fat, sweaty, tattooed skin head with no shirt and Doc Martins wanting to crowd surf on top of your head. Earth, the world we live in, is the stage. Our life is where all the action is. Our life is the headlining act, Bro, what the show is all about!! But backstage, where all the hotties are, that's Heaven. You have to get a pass to get there. That means CBGB is the entire cosmos, it's Heaven, Hell and Earth all under one roof. And Hilly Kristel, Man, the must mean he's God. Hell yeah!! CBGB yeah!!
... but Hilly Kristel is dead....
...hmmm, now that's deep. Maybe Nietzsche was right all along :?

I've been thinking about this. If one moshes in hell, I suppose the "pogo" would be the prefered dance in heaven. I mean, have you ever seen footage of a revival. Hundreds of born agains bouncing up and down in the name of baby Jesus. There is alot of flopping around at one of those things. So, I think that would be the dance of choice.

They'd probably be skanking as well, pogoing and skanking, that's the way of the friendly mosher. I bet Jesus would be skanking along with them. I could just picture him in his white robes and sandels, kicking his feet while swinging his arms to the rythm. Hilly Kristel will be there too, you know, since he's God. But he won't be dancing. I mean, he was 75, he wouldn't be into that kind of thing.

No, I see Hilly Kristel as more of a quiet, benevolent type. Taking in everything and enjoying the atmosphere.Who do you think the house band would be? Wow, I can't wait to go to heaven and see that.
