I want to help someone remove spyware from their computer and I want to use a free program. This is for Windows XP.

Just wondering, what are your recommendations?

    I used Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) when I had Windows 98/XP.

Windows Vista users should use PC-Cillin. Updates often, anti-virus/spy combo, and usually $20 on ebay or something.

superantispyware.com sounds ridiculous, but it's by far the best I've found yet.
I run it weekly, cause I always be lookin' at nekkid boobies on the intenet.

Let me get back to you on this. I'll talk to my friend who is an IT Goddess. I can't even begin to tell you all of the credentials she has.

There's only one thing you need:

          The Webroot Spy Sweeper

A 30-Day trial it is, but it will definately clean out your spyware, malware, etc. I highly recommend this download. Hope it work.

            http://www.safer-networking.org is your friend people

also it would be a good idea to use two or three programs (NOT running simultaineously, mind you) just to be sure you've got everything the other program(s) didn't catch.

you should also update your anti-spyware definitions about the same rate as your anti-virus definitions.

Spybot and Ad-Aware work best for me....

I've been reading over this thread and the suggestions are great! My Mom has been looking for a good anti-spyware to run on the computer so I'll tell her about a few of these programs.
