Okay, as a huge GI Joe nerd, I've been trying to keep up with all the news on the GI Joe movie. Sadly, most of it has been 100% suck. With rumors about no Cobra, Duke & Action Man "buddy movie", and headquarters being set in Brussels makes most fans want to puke. Alas, do not lose hope! The most recent news I've come across looks a lot more promising. Looks like the Joes are back in the Pitt for starters. Check it out.

"This movie will be a modern telling of the “G.I. Joe vs. Cobra” storyline and its compelling characters that Hasbro created 25 years ago. The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the “Pit” as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established."

Cool! I would refuse to see it if it didn't follow the GIJoe vs Cobra theme

This is good news, but are they going to call it Action Force?

They had better not put them all in black leather:mad:

Yeah, they don't need to have some team uniform. That would be the suck.
They always have to change how characters look in movies, just to be dumb idiots from heck. I just hope they keep as close as possible to the old 80's uniforms. Flint needs a black beret, Snake-Eyes needs a weird mask, Cobra Commander needs a metal face, etc. I think i saw him eat a chicken leg through that mask one time...anyway, original costumes need to be kept!

The Dreadnoks are set to take on a major role as villains in the movie. The original concept called for just Destro and Baroness, with Cobra Commander taking on an Emperor Palpatine role. Thanks to fan input, Dreadnoks are now added.

I can't emphasize enough how much this production is looking at fan input, especially after Transformers did so well while taking that approach. If there's something you don't like, make a big stink about it. But try going to major G.I. Joe forums like yojoe.com and joebattlelines.com. They do read your comments.

Also, this does deserve a separate reply, G.I. Joe is OFFICIALLY greenlit!

i honestly can't wait for this movie to come out. i love g.i. joe and hope that this movie is made they way it should be, in that it follows the 80s cartoon series. i mean, that was the main reason g.i. joe became popular right? it was a formula for success. deviating too far from the 80s cartoon would just make it another action movie in my mind

Wow, more news keeps coming out today about this movie.

The official start of filming is February 13, 2008. They're going with Stuart Beattie's (Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, and the recent 30 Days of Night)version of the script, although I'm sure ideas will be pulled together from all the scripts written for this film (don't forget fan input!).

Austrailian actor Sam Worthington is in talks of joining the cast. He has been in a couple war movies, such as Hart's War (although I would call that a courtroom drama rather than a war movie) and The Great Raid. They could have him don an American accent, perhaps they are going to make a Joe character come from a different country (the whole global unit thing), or perhaps we have our first Dreadnok.

If they make G.I.Joe into some sort of "International force" instead of an "all American military outfit" for the movie, then I will not be seeing the movie.

Just to make every butthole happy, they're gonna throw in some international characters. But I heard the Joes are back in the USA. If all the characters were American, every smelly hippie scumbag would piss & moan about it. As long as Flint is awesome, Snake Eyes cuts off faces, and Roadblock eats fried chicken...I'll watch the hell out of this.

I don't think it maters who the director is . I have a very low expectation for this movie.

Oh, it completely matters who the director is. If it's a good director like Brian singer or Paul Greengrass, the movie will probably be great. A bad director, like... Stephen Sommers, the movie probably won't be good.

I hope it doesn't get so bad that we'd all rather eat bologna & banana sandwiches than see this movie. That could mean big trouble.
