i've deal with it after only a year of owning it. now, it will program smoothly, but from time to time it jumps. this is also a problem when using a game emulator, although it has nothing to do with the frameskipping, just the computer itself. here's a list of files i have on my computer:

pictures from friends on the internet,
readme's and other important text files,
helpful online software popup blockers, virus scanners, weatherbug, etc.,
a few game emulators,
normal microsoft programs.

my computer is at 5 gb of space, maximum would be 14 gb. so any suggestions?

If I were you, I'd throw the fucker out the window.

But that probably wouldn't be a good thing to do.

well, it worked. it was really the startup programs that caused the trouble. the project64 emulator works better than it has before. the framerate goes down to 44 at times but it's fine.thanks ray

even though your problem is fixed it still may be time for you to step your RAM up and get a new harddrive. 14 gigs of HD space doesnt give you much to work with and being that ur PC is from 2001 u probably only have bout 128 mb of RAM. Upgrade homie Upgrade!
