Why do you call it the "World Series"?

Probably because at the time the first World's Series was played (1903) baseball was still prettty much an American predillection. It was a contest between the then 2 most powerful (and independent) baseball leagues in the United States. Now that there is more of a global aspect to baseball, the title is perhaps out of date.
It just called the world series in the playoff.

So, if it's out of date, why isn't it changed to something more US-ish?

Its kind of an antiquated thing... just like the game itself.
